I wrote the memorial on Find a Grave.
John was Protestant.
Thank you for the suggestions.

Australia / Re: Australia / Vic? Ellen WALSH / SAMSON/ SANSOM

So in 1892 Ellen claims to be 30 years old and born Melbourne ie born c1862 however in 1945 she was described as 89 years old and born Bendigo ie born c1856. I have searched my CD for that era and cannot find anything. Of course as information was given verbally there could be errors.
As the midwife registered the birth it’s possible she estimated Ellen’s age and guessed her place of birth.   Occupiers of property were required by law to register births which occurred on their premises in that era.
The Napier Street property wasn’t a lodging house according to advertisements in the newspapers of the day.

This could be Ellen's birth but not at Bendigo and I wonder how accurate was Ellen's age at death.  Need the information from Vera's birth certificate ie what was the age of the mother and hopefully it was accurate.

SAMSON Ellen
Father Henry   Mother Catherine MCDONALD
At Daylesford  Reg#20845  1866

and her parents' marriage with surname spelling variation

SAMPSON Henry
MCDONALD Catherine
1863  Reg#3279

It would appear that only Ellen's birth reg was in the name of SAMSON...all her siblings born with surname SAMPSON and at Daylesford as well.  I noticed the second given name for Henry as Ross on the indexes.  You can search the database on Vic BDM website.  Henry was from Cornwall.

This is Henry's and Catherine's memorial

In Memoriam Notice for Henry Ross SAMPSON, mentions a daughter Ellen with other children.

Have traced this Ellen, so the search continues.

I would suggest that Vera invented her father's name and mother surname at the time of her marriage to Ernest CRAVEN in 1912, to cover her illegitimate birth.

Who registered Vera's birth in 1892?

What was Ellen's age and place of birth on the certificate?

I have the following information about my late husband's ggggrandfather.

The Royal Irish Constabulary - A short history and genealogical guide with a select list of medal awards and casualties Author:Jim Herlihy -

KELLY, John, captain, baronial chief constable, secretary to the PPF in Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny, 1821-1822; death reported in the Freeman's Journal on 9/7/1824. 'On Saturday last, at Johnstown,Co.Kilkenny, Captain John Kelly, Chief of Constabulary Police of the barony'.

His widow, Harriet applied for compensation on 18/9/1827 saying that her late husband arrested the murderers of John Marum, Knockashinna, barony of Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny on 16 March 1824.

I am interested in finding out where he was buried.  He was protestant.

Could anyone help me with the "PPF" mentioned in Jim Herhily's summary?

Cheers

Can you identify your maternal grandfather in the death notices of his mother in 1954. There is mention of a son Charles.
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page19934023

And death notice for his father
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page19052419

Is this your grandparents' marriage in Victoria in 1934?
