I didn't realise they do wedding cars too. I hope you didn't find an unexpected guest having a bit of a lie down in the back!

I have an English Parish record CD with Yorkshire East Riding.  I searched for a few of your names.

Hi Kristin,  do you have the details of the CD handy? I'd like to get myself a copy.

Thanks,
Keith

My gg grandfather, Edward Annison, was another to come to Hull  from Norfolk in the 1840s. But his employment wasn't related to the fishing industry. He was a wheelwright and blacksmith, eventually building a coachbuilding business. Under his son the business became T.S. Annison  undertakers, which is still a going concern.

Thanks again, John and Geoff. The help is much appreciated, and I feel I'm starting to get the hang of the basics at least.

Ancestry seems to be a pretty good resource for research, but pretty useless for printing and viewing. I'm looking into stand-alone third-party programs. I saw a recommendation for Family Historian, but as Ancestry doesn't provide the ability to export a gedcom file I would have to manually copy everything across. I'm now looking at Family Tree Maker which Ancestry seem to plug. It seems that FTM integrates with Ancestry insofar as you can perform online searches, but I haven't yet checked if I can download what I have so far on Ancestry directly into FTM.

Ahh. I think the mist is starting to clear, now. I couldn't see how to get the name of the married couple from the FreeBMD - I didn't understand the function of the "click to see others" link. So, as I see it now: the FBMD holds an index to a Vol and Page, we can't see that page but the "click ... others" link searches the FBMD for other people who are indexed to the same Vol and Page, and from that we can infer the partners in the marriage. Cool.

One other thing that came to mind from your explanation: it sounds as though you specifically for his death and the went on to look for his marriage. Presumably it's more efficient to do it that way than to search for B, M and D together...

Family History Beginners Board / GenesReunited style diagram on ancestry?
« on: Thursday 05 October 06 21:25 BST (UK)  »
A few days ago I stumbled upon genesunited.com. After a couple of days there, I found my way to ancestry.com. Although ancestry.com has better search facilities etc. I miss the ability to view the fuller family tree chart available on GenesReunited.com which includes siblings unlike the ancestry pedigree view. Is there any way to get a GenesReunited-style view of my ancestry tree?

Thanks,
Keith

Also, your Tobias 'L' Annison was in fact Tobias Smith Annison, who married Ida Elizabeth Malton in Dec 1883 Sculcoates

Here he is in 1881:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1881&indiv=try&h=26037825

His father Edward Stewar(t/d) Annison was married to Selina Ursula Hastings before marrying Mary Ann. Selina dies in 1855, and he remarries Mary Ann Smith very soon afterwards. (Dec 1855 Sculcoates)

Tanja, would you mind sharing the route you took to find this information?  That would be very helpful. Especially the information regarding his marriages. Thanks a lot.

Keith

Yep, must be. That would be supported by the business name.

He's listed variously as Tobias T, L and Smith. He is remembered by the family. The records show him as coach proprietor though he actually built a very successful undertaking business - T.S. Annisons on Holderness Road in Hull. The business is still a going concern. My father had fond memories of playing in the stables and watching the horses.
