Hi Kate,
Thank you for the sound advice, I do not live near any L.D.S. centre's, I will try the I.G.I.
When I first posted, I hoped there might be someone that could be working on, or come across the family: but nothing is that easy is it !

Back to the hard slog
                                  Thanks again

Thanks Eileen,

I was thinking along the same lines....... although my cousin started his research, with a different forename for g.g. grandfather, anything is worth a try , If I knew my grandfathers, mothers name, it might help, I suspect it could be Mary as this name appears only on the Callaghan side of the family.
Thanks for the luck :) I think I will need it !

Hello,
I wonder if anybody would be able to help , or offer a little guidence. I have been looking for the whereabouts in Ireland, of my grandfather Patrick Callaghan's place of birth, ( when grandfather left Ireland, the prefix O'was  dropped)

He married my grandmother, Margaret Winter in Dec. 1910 age 27 yrs. at Sunderland. The marriage certifcate records his father as William, deceased, William had been a farm labourer.

I have found no trace of  my grandfather on the 1901 census (England/ Wales) but he was a witness at my
grandmothers sister, Annie's marriage in 1906, also at Sunderland.

As a young child , I believe my dad said, that the family originally came from Cork. some research has been done by cousins; but they told me they had searched for a Patrick, as grandfathers father, this did turn up an interesting result, of an record at Athey which I believe is on the Curragh ? that tied in with the fact that grandfather had been a jockey in Ireland.

I also believe, he could have had at least one other sibling, Michael; but that is all I know.

If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful
                         Thanks
                                       Angie
