Hi FT

Good to hear from you.   Atkins is my mum's side of the family but they're hard to trace because I think they were classic moonlight flitters!  I have little information on her because she died in 1953 when I was 6 and I didn't start getting into FH until many many years later.   I think George Frederick's father was Samuel but i've hit on a couple of possibilities and haven't got round to checking them out yet - the trials and tribulations of pre-census searches!   I have GFs marriage to Ann Rebecca Holmes.  If you want to ask me questions about different bits of info that I might have so we can really sort out where we fit into each other's family tree, please do ask -  and I'm happy to let you have my e-mail address if I can work out a private messaging facility (old age, I'm afraid!!)

Hello new family member - here's hoping we can catch up soon.

Regards

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Mayors of Highgate
« on: Saturday 03 July 10 13:40 BST (UK)  »
I hope I'm in the right place!   Family stories have it that one of my mother's brothers was Mayor of Highate, probably in the 1950s.   Does anyone know if a list of mayors might exist, and if so where would be a good place to start looking?

Thanks folks for your help and advice.   I will continue to dig around the 1881 census.  Perhaps if I circle it and keep moving inwards, something will come to light.

Census and Resource Discussion / 1881 missing information?

I'm busy trying to trace my GGrandfather George Frederick ATKINS, born 1820 in Marylebone.
He's been pretty good up to and including 1871 census but, although he doesn't die until 1883 I can't find him or his wife Ann Rebecca anywhere in 1881.   Have pieces been lost?   If so, how do I find out which ones?

Lancashire / Re: Shipwrights

Hi Dotty

I'm trying to climb my husband's family tree.

The family I'm looking for at the moment are M(a)ckinnon.  Father - Charles - hails from "Scotland" (big place, Scotland!)
and his "wife" although I haven't tracked down a marriage yet is Clara nee Stallwood of Wycombe, Bucks.   On the 1901 census they are in Barrow in Furness and he says he's a shipwright.   They have two children, a son Conrad who was born in "Ireland" (also a big place!) and a daughter Emily who was born in Wycombe, Bucks - so I guess mum went home for the second baby.

Any helpful suggestions you can make will be gratefully received.

Lancashire / Shipwrights

Does anyone know of the existence of directories or registers or similar that might be helpful in tracing an ancestor who claimed on the 1901 census to be a shipwright?   At the moment he's playing hide-and-hide, and I'd just like to change that a bit!   In 1901 he and his family were boarders in Barrow in Furness.   He claims to have been born in Scotland, his son in Ireland and wife and daughter in Buckinghamshire.   And I thought our generations were the mobile ones.

Hi Devongirl

I'm a London BARHAM hunter too!   Sadly, I don't think any of your missing Barhams are hiding in my tree, but I'll keep an eye out for you.   If you should find trace of Francis(Frank) Barham and Isabella on the 1881 census I'd be thrilled to bits - they've gone to ground.
