The Lighter Side / Re: RootsChat 20th Anniversary - 31 st December 2023
« on: Sunday 31 December 23 16:38 GMT (UK)  »
I wish to add my congratulations to Rootschat and thanks to Tristan and Sarah and all the moderators for executing not an easy task. I've corresponded with and even met people face to face from this group who've offered advice, cups of coffee and even taken me around churchyards showing where my ancestors lived and worked.

In the early days of my research there were some extremely helpful folk on here who helped me considerably. I don't know what I'd have done without you. Never mind the lack of a Pantomime surely we should have our own New Year's Honours List?

Thank goodness for that, Forfarian.

I was trying to fasten some loose ends, so to speak. I had taken a photograph many years ago of a Scottish headstone including the 2 deaths which I was searching for today. I hadn't given them any thought as they were well down the list of names on the headstone, not the main family members. How informative are the Scottish memorials - thankfully.

Thank you Carole I have checked the surname interests table recently. I'm just trying a different tack as I have been able to contact some of my great-grandfather's siblings' descendants. I hope the apostrophes are in the right place! ;)

Does anyone have a connection to the descendants of this family who lived at Holmes Farm, Dalrymple?

The young ladies on the right of my avatar may be sisters. My mother Mary Saxton is on the left and it may have been taken c1920.

A friend recently lent me this delightful little family history book. It's well worth a read if you live in this region.

We wanted to apply for my father-in-law's service records but are now doubting whether it will be possible. He was born in 1912 and died in 2000. He gave up 6 years of his life fighting in Egypt and then Italy, his young son grew up not knowing his father which made relationships on his return very difficult.

In the case of this thread it sounds like "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing".

Thanks for this topic.

Thank you Gadget once again! They've certainly made it difficult to find and actually understand.
I think I still have a month's subscription though it says it's cancelled.

Hello Rootschat friends. I've just had a month's subscription to FindMyPast after a long time away but cannot find how to cancel my auto-renew. Where have they hidden it now please?
