Technical Help / Re: anti virus

I was merely reminded of a line from Groucho.  Shrewdly apt in the case of computers, where children can often deal with them easier than anyone else.  It was not a personal attack but a general jest.  I'm sorry you took offence.

 :D

You remind me of Groucho Marx.

"A three year old child could understand this.  Hey you, run out and get me a three year old child, I can't make head nor tail of it."

 ;D  ;)

raa,

I think you may find the answer to your pop up question here:
http://www.help2go.com/Tutorials/Windows/How_to_Remove_MSN_Messenger_and_Stop_its_Pop-Ups.html

Regarding winantivirus2007, I believe Spybot S&D detects and (presumably) removes it.  It is free too!

downside

I thought I'd explained that I wasn't saying that CCleaner is incorporated into the Yahoo! toolbar, but that the toolbar is included in the install file of CCleaner.  There is a difference.

As you say, there is only one version of CCleaner (free version), but it is available in 3 different builds.

Here is where to find the different builds on the CCleaner website, as I described earlier:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx

Here is the post from the official forum showing the changelog when the toolbar was first included (highlighted):
Quote
v1.27.260
- Added secure file deletion.
- Added Windows HotFix Uninstaller cleaning.
- Added optional IE toolbar.
- Updated application icon.
- Fixed large file size issue.
- Fixed Firefox cookie error.
- Restyled Startup program list.
- Added cleaning for:
Grisoft AVG 7.0, TUGZip, AntiVir Personal Edition,
Google Toolbar 4.0
- Updated cleaning for:
MSN Messenger, DVD Shrink, Spybot Search and Destroy,
Adobe Photoshop CS2.
- Updated translations:
Hebrew, Romanian, French, German.
- Fixed small font issue with symbolic languages.
- Minor display fixes.

Here are further posts from the same forum regarding inclusion of the toolbar...

...and here regarding the introduction of Basic and Slim builds of CCleaner (see post #2):

I hope that this helps to clarify.

Sorry for any confusion caused by my earlier post.  My point was that the Standard version of CCleaner has the Yahoo! toolbar included with it - and not that CCleaner is part of the Yahoo! toolbar.  Installing the toolbar is optional but those who didn't want it were annoyed at having to download a much larger file so the writers made builds available without the toolbar - Basic and Slim.

CCleaner is a great program.

I'd just like to point out that it comes in 3 flavours - Standard (with the Yahoo! toolbar), Basic (no toolbar) and Slim (English only, no toolbar).
To find the choices - click on download and then select "other builds".

Hi Silas,

An aborted download usually means a busy server, which is doubtless the case with AVG at the moment.  Keep trying - you'll get there.
