Thanks for this,

There has been a reply on the Kent board pointing out that his army record in the Boar War uses the name John  :'(

Are there any searchable records that would mention his parents

All the other records in the uk for him use hammond, and I hope he isn't using John as my chances of finding him even in the UK would be very low. :(

I'm not sure that saddling was going that well in the UK by then as his brothers seem to have been moving into other leather related work.

Canada / Hammond Johnson did he move to Canada

Hi

I've posted about Hammond before with little luck,  but a while back I came in contact with a cousin who suggested that he went to Canada and did all right for himself.

What I know about him is
born in Goudhurst, Kent in 1880
Parents James Johnson and and Frances Radcliffe Norrington
Occupation - saddler  (very much the family profession)
1901 he is in South Africa for the Boar War.
He married Ellen Caroline Campion in 12 Dec 1908
There only child Leslie Norrington Wyatt Johnson was born 24 Sep 1909 (My Grandfather)
All 3 of them are living in Gillingham Kent in the 1911 Census[

My Grandad didn't remember his dad, so I'm guessing he must have left before the first world war.  No indication that he joined up but it's possible.  (I think my Grandad would have know if he had, as he new his paternal grandad)

The Common Room / Re: National Probate Calendar for 1859

The Probate Calendar is bassed on when probate was given not when the person died, so it is still worth checking as it can take some time to get probate.

Thanks to the 1911 census and a distant cousin we came accross last year we think we have now found Martha's death registration.

Martha seems to have remarried twice after the death of her first Husband.  (he died 1891)
2nd husband Williamm Parker 1894  he died 1894  ( Same quarter? )
3rd husband John leworthy 1905
she then died as we knew in Mar 1922 registered as Leeworthy in exeter  (I have just ordered the death cert)

The famile bible doesn't mention remariages.

Ham-bone

I think that Lars is a scandinavian name, possible German.  My GGGG Grandmother (may be 1 out) was called Mary Hammond.  My Great Grandfather was named Hammond after her family, as was one of his Great uncles ( born  25 Jan 1813 New Romney, Kent)
