My father..James Joseph Egan was in the Irish guards 1939-45. Based originally at Catterick camp Yorks..Subsequently became a Driver for Sir Peak-Frean ..yes the famous biscuit manufacturer. Served in FRANCE/Holland/GERMANY.
Was in Niemeigen when the bridge at Arnhem was lost.I gave him the book "A Bridge too Far"  many yrs ago.He was unable to go past the first few pages as it named his colleagues and commanding officer.

I have a fantastic picture of him in training..going over the "Greasy pole"

Anyone with any info please contact me.

Regards, Jimmys daughter. Marie xxx

Help required on any basis please. My Father -In -Law , Dennis Wilfred Bent ( deceased) spent his army years in India. I have much memorabilia of his including a programme entitled " Christmas at Palam" 1945. S.E.A.F.F.
The editorial to the programme was written By  S.S.Bertram G/C. It is entitled "A word from the groupie" The programme includes The Christmas Eve frivolities,Chrismas Day  schedule  plus the menu and the Boxing Day schedule.
The souvenir programme has a lucky number on the rear cover number :1666  It seems the lucky winner received some kind of prize on Boxing Day.
Any Info would be useful.I have also many photographs of India that he took during his service there.

I think I may have gone off on a tangent here !
It seems that John was indeed single until he married Louisa Clark.! I am actually trying to find why,and when  he died at a young age.
I know he was a Gunsmith in Birmingham.
An interesting fact  ( allegedly) from family talk, is that Louisa`s father
( unknown at present) was the (alleged) inventor of the ??safety pin ! His products were manufactured in his garden shed. However, it seems he was a drinker and, subsequently sold off the business to a bigger concern.! In his wilder moments, he would stick a ??safety pin through his forehead for "fun" ! All of this is anecdotal of course, but fascinating ! Somewhere the name Kirby is associated with Louisa ( Kirby pin) ???  So much to discover !
Also it seems that Alyisious, Louisa's second husband May have been married previously. To whom? Boy!! my family is rather complicated but somehow amusing in many ways !
Any help on any issues here would be wonderful.I have had to now enlist the help of my older sister to help with the chronology of all this !

Regards xx

Louisa married Aloyisius Detheridge in  December 1908  ( That was the 2nd marriage for both parties). Previously Louisa had married John ford.I had assumed ( wrongly ) it seems,, that the detheridge boys ( Howard & Alfred) were children of His first marriage. On futher searches it seems they may have been the produce of Louisa and Alyisious. !

Looking for Louisa Hughes Clark ? of Catherine Street, Aston Birmingham. Birth details if possible.

Married John Ford. ( His 2nd marriage) .  Would like to find John Fords first marriage details if possible.

Also  there maybe a "Kirby" connected to the name.
Many Thanks, Avalonx x
