Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Kent look ups Henry Swan birth
« on: Wednesday 02 December 15 06:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Roger,
Thanks for your reply. You are correct I have discovered a lot since my initial post. Samuel Swan was born 17/11/1811 Bobbing. He was the 2nd eldest of 12 although others think he was the eldest. His 3 brothers Richard, Henry and Edward went to Australia as well as some of his nephews. Had Samuel not had the convict stain on his record he would possibly have been even more recognised for his achievements. He died quite a wealthy man.
Cheers  :)

Accepted that it is the maiden name of mother.

Checked the page again. There are another 19 entries, most saying daughter of BLANK surname following a baptismal entry. Only a couple mention the first name which is male. I am beginning to think it is the mother's maiden name. But why dont all entries have it?

 :-\

P.s The baptisms are from St Mary's Lewisham, Kent.

Thanks Wiggy,
I am hoping it is just a second entry on the 1st two dates and not the mothers maiden name of the son as that mucks up my tree.

In the first two entries of baptisms it says son of , but later says daughter of. Can someone explain what daughter of means in this Baptism attachment? Is it the mothers maiden name for the son or another entry on the same day ( possibly an unnamed basechild)?
Thanks

Limerick / Re: Mulvehill-Limerick
« on: Friday 27 June 14 11:06 BST (UK)  »
With the help of a Pm from George who suggested Corough could be Curragh and a certificate that says James' daughter was born Stonehall. I think Curragh now Curragh Chase would be the place I am looking for. James' daughter married John Mulvehill (spelt Mulvil) at the time and he says he was born Skaten, Limerick.

I am having a guess that this could be Askeaton unless anyone has another suggestion of where Skaten is?

The Irish are very good at confusing me.

Limerick / Mulvehill-Limerick
« on: Tuesday 17 June 14 11:05 BST (UK)  »
Although not related, I am trying to find out info on a Mulvehill (later became Melville) family that came to NSW, Australia in 1854. They were Catholic, I am pretty sure. The father James Mulvehill born either 1792 (Death says) or 1800 (Immig. says), son of James and Margaret, immigrated with his wife Anne nee unknown (parents Thomas and Agnes) and their 7 children.  His son Samuel's obituary says he was born Corough, Co. Limerick..  Does anyone have any idea where or if this place exists?

Thanks
Shauna
P.S. There is also a John Mulvehill c 1833 that comes to NSW in 1857 and appears to be sponsored by James. He marries one of James' daughters, I am pretty sure.

Hi Charlotte,
Although this site is called Rootschat it is not for personal chat  so I have sent you a personal message. I hope you can contact me as I have some info that might be useful  to you before you go to Horsley. It is the little green icon on the left. You may need to go to the home page and read the "how to use Rootschat" it is a bit fiddly for beginners but there is a lot of help available.
Cheers

Hi Charlotte,
Welcome to Rootschat.
Thanks for sharing your info with me. There is no guarantee I have it all correct with Peter but lets hope so. Your best bet would be to go to Gloucestershire records office which I think is in Gloucester from memory. It is a bit far for me as I live in Australia.
Rootschat can be extremely helpful if the volunteers have the resources so have a look at what is on offer for Gloucestershire and Wales. It definately isnt easy with a name like Brown. Although not complete this site: http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/MainMenu.aspx   is also very useful.
Good luck  :)
Cheers
Shauna.
Your Thomas Henry was the 3rd decendant of Peter Brown to die in WW1 at the Somme.
One was my great uncle Stanley Ewart Page
