Lancashire / Re: 123 Crescent Rd, Crumpsall 1843
« on: Friday 31 July 09 10:59 BST (UK)  »
I have just seen this post and hope I can add some value.

My credentials for doing so are as follows, I was born in 1953 in Crumpsall Hospital, my eldest son was laos born there in 1979. My mother sadly died in Springfield Hospital and I lived ( Birch Road ) and worked around all that area in the 70's and early 80's.

As previously stated , what is now North Manchester General Hospital is an amalgam of 3 Hospitals on the same site. Springfield Hospital ( which was a mental instituition and earlier the workhouse ) Delauneys Hospital ( geriatric ) and Crumpsall Hospital ( A&E, maternity, general ) The whole site is loosely linked with various other buildings of different ages although the bulk of it is Victorian.

It is bounded by Delauneys Road on the North and east and Crescent Road on the south and west. It used to be possible to drive from Delauneys road up into the various Hospitals and then exit on a drive to Crescent road.

There was I believe a lodge at the bottom of the drive at the Crescent road Junction which was previously the workhouse Masters residence and would have later become the address used in the subject of this post ( 123 Crescent Road ) It was alittle isolated and a small field was adjacent  before coming to the aforementioned farm, Clarkesville ( which we knew as Farrar's Farm. this had a small drive leading up to the Jewish cemetery adajacent to Springfield Hospital.

I would think that the main Hospital used the 72 delauneys road address as its "clearing house " as it too had a similar lodge building at the entrance just down from Birch Road.

If there is any other explanations I can possibly help with, let me know.

The Policeman who was killed was not on Delauneys road, but Crumpsall Lane.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Mayor of Southampton 1853 help
« on: Tuesday 30 October 07 09:00 GMT (UK)  »
I recently had one of those marvelous genealogy days ! Tracing my maternal line, I realised I had made an error in identifying my great great grandmother who I believed was Harriet Prior from Hampshire. But the marriage certificate to my great great grandfather John Cole proved this wrong.

She was actually Harriet Tucker, the daughter on one John Traffells Tucker ( nice name for tracing ! )

We all get so used to delving into the nineteenth century records to find our distant past lost in agricultural labourers, cotton mill workers and the occasional cobbler, that this was a great surprise. John Traffells Tucker was an auctioneer, alderman and JP of 32 Above Bar street who was Mayor of Southampton in 1853. I even found an online oil painting of him in southampton art gallery.

I have found lots of census material, his death in 1882 and some great stuff in plimsolllines collection of directories. But any other information OR suggestions of where to discover more would be gratefully received.

It also seems that 32 Above bar street was a fine Georgian Residence adjacent to Aslatt's coach manufactory http://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/SCANSb/b-9810.JPG

Was this area bombed during WW2, is there anything left ?

All help and suggestions much appreciated,

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Hallingham Essex where is it ?

Thanks for your efforts. I got hallingham from the actual census image itself and have just tried the "magnifier " on it again to see it it could be wrongly transcribed, but no.

I had also discovered the hallingbury,s and they are close to herts but when i followed the Google trail to an online genealogy page it looked liked another typo ( like mine above - hallinham )

There seem to be no other references at all in Google to hallingham.

One possible lead is that in 1851, Francis's younger sister ( Frances ) is living with the family and is recorded on the census sheet as being born in Essex, Sheering. There is a sheering too a couple of miles south of the Hallingbury's

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Hallingham Essex where is it ?
« on: Tuesday 04 September 07 15:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have a relative, my 3rd great grandfather , Francis Fuller, whose birthplace is given in the 1851 census returns as hallingham Essex. He married in 1840 a woman from Standon herts in Much Hadham Herts.

I cannot find any Hallinham in Essex and have tried a number of synonyms and other possibles. I would susupect that it is near the Hertfordshire border.

Does anyone familiar with these areas have any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks for that. Ebn has sent me quite alot of information which has added to my knowledge. I thought this Manchester marriage was odd at first but I then realised I had alreday found it myself and used it as a basis for Lucy lloyd marrying George Robinson.

Why  they would marry in Manchester is a mystery though as both were from Shropshire and continue to live and have children in Shropshire.

Perhaps Ebn can shed some light ?

Samuel Lloyd and Ann are my 3rd great grandparents on my mothers side. I would be interested in sharing information with you about this family.

His son John was the father of Matilda my maternal great Grandmother.

I hope this helps.

Thanks very much Peter - I did already have the census record, but not the burial date ( only the death date from Tara's MI.

That is very helpful. I wonder why the age (73) is different in the Burial index as all the info points to an age of 72, including the MI above and the 1841 census.

Thank you very much Tara

I am sure that the Esther Batt you refer to is my 4xGreat Grandmother. The age fits and the fact that her husband Joseph is listed as a widow in 1851 Census.

The other information may be of use but I dont have any link with those names yet.

Thanks agian for your help.
