I am not sure if any of you out there could help me. I live in Australia and have no way of searching any archives in the UK. So I am humbly asking for some help.
I have been told there is a write up in one of the Newcastle papers in 1933 about my gg grandfather, Thomas Ashurst (Cummings). I have contacted some archives, but I probably haven't contacted the right one. The story goes, he was the leader of a pit band and was well respected in the area. When I was little, my dad had my gg grandfathers piano acordian, which I used to play all the time, we left it behind with so many other things when we emigrated (if only we knew then what we know now). When he died at the age of 82 (he hung himself - so sad), on Feb 4 1933 someone wrote the article and if I was lucky, it may even have a photo. But alas, I don't know where else to go to find it. When he died he was living at Kenton Gardens, Gosforth, Northumberland.
