Lanarkshire / Re: John Mason (1780?) and Elizabeth Allan (1788?)

It is a bit of a puzzle and is on my direct line, so I'll keep pursuing until I'm certain its not available.
Good plan. You never know what might turn up in someone's attic or basement.
Ive spent a fortune on SP over the last 15 years, but its fascinating! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Forfarian - so should these be on Scotlands People?  If so, my search goes on.
Yes, all these are on SP.

ColC is correct in saying that if they died between 1836 and 1854 in Barony, the death record, if there ever was one, appears not to have survived.

Thats interesting Colin.  I had assumed, wrongly of course, that Scotlands People had all the Barony death records. That sounds possibly why I'm drawing a blank with them.

Lanarkshire / John Mason (1780?) and Elizabeth Allan (1788?)

These two in my family tree are creating a wee bit of a blockage! They all lived in Barony parish, Glasgow. I have them marrying on 2nd Feb 1817 and going on to have three children - Agnes (1820), John (1820) and Mary 1822. I can only find the birth record of Mary which refers to her mother as Bethia, although Mary's death certificate states her mother was Elizabeth. Elizabeth had a sister called Bethia, who was three years younger.
I have John and the three kids in the 1841, but no sign of Elizabeth.  I can't find any death certificate for John Mason or Elizabeth. I did find John in the 1851 Census, living with his daugher Mary (Carson) and family, but no sign of him after then.  I can find no sign of Elizabeth except for a couple of possible listings. However, nothing that I can pin my hat on to suggest any document then or afterwards that truly relates to her.
The Elizabeth Allan I have was born on 27 April 1788, to parents John Allan and Agnes Purdon.
Anyting that anyone can do to help find the ultimate death details of John and Elizabeth would be very helpful.  Im reaching a dead end.

Scotland / Re: Jane or Jean Clugston

Hi Debra - the location of the death of the infant and also Jean Mitchell was the same. The father on the death certificate of the infant is shown as Jean Clugston's 'husband' William Davie and she (Jean Clugston) is shown as the mother.  Its all a bit strange and maybe the child was actually Jean Mitchell's, although the death certificate does not show that. Jean Mitchell died just over two weeks following the death of the infant. Her death certificate states she died from disease of the chest combined with inflammation of the bowel.
Jean was shown living with her mother and William Davie in the 1851 census.

Certainly is Forfarian. I'm still trying to get to the bottom of it all. Thank you for your advice and help.

The child William Davie, born in 1841 died in 1886 and the records show his mother was Jean Clugston.  He would have been born when Jean was 42. The unnamed child born in 1855 was also shown to have Jean as the mother. As mentioned earlier, the 1861 census shows her living (at 60) with the William Davie Snr at that time. It sounds fanciful, but that's what the records are indicating.

Thank you everyone for your invaluable help.  I was always told that the simple answer is probably the correct one and it does seem I've been looking at different people.
