I know you’re asking about a marriage but do you have Alice’s birth certificate as it’s registered as being in Ticehurst Sussex, not Kent ?

Morning all
Just had a massive wasp shimmy through our window opening - modern double glazed window on its smallest lock setting so the gap is tiny and I still had the curtains shut. I hadn’t seen it come in, just suddenly heard it and it was Loud! I opened the window fully and then shut the curtains again in the hope it would stay behind the curtains and it worked. It buzzed off out again. Didn’t expect one of those in April. We’ve had some lovely big fat bumble bees around , but this was def a stripey wasp.

When we had a recruitment drive for volunteers at a food bank, they also appealed for tin openers to be gifted as some brands of tinned food didn’t have the ring pull things on them and folk often didn’t possess a tin opener, especially if they were homeless or sofa surfing. I notice some of my own purchases of tinned fruit, rice pudding and tuna don’t come with ring pulls still (I’m in the uk).

RTL don’t get too upset about grandchildren and their emotions. I’m sure the family loved having you there and they will remember the ‘ day we played a game that was so difficult that even the grown ups couldn’t manage.’
We have a grandson who is 7 but is very very tall for his age , however his emotions haven’t caught up to his intelligence and his height, so the strangest things will have him bursting into tears! It sometimes feels very disproportionate,  but to him it’s the end of the world at that moment.
I didn’t make it to church either as I was sitting in a walk in centre waiting to get some abx as I have sinusitis. Penicillin now doing its magic so hopefully I’ll feel more like myself soon too.

Durham / Re: Marriages, Darlington, Durham from 1760's

The Bishops Transcripts for Darlington St Cuthbert date from 1762 which may include some marriages. However the rest of Darlington aren’t from that early. The BT’s are available on Ancestry.

I hit the wrong side of the shingles jab age thing as they changed who could get it and dropped it to 65 from a particular date. I recently hit 66 so thought I could get it - wrong! Those of us who are after 65 have to wait till we’re 70 until we’re allowed it as our birthday is the wring side of the date.
There’s been lots in the media about folk like me who’d like it but can’t get it. One lady said it was daft as her husband who is younger than her, will hit 65 this year and he can get the jab, but she like me has to wait till she’s 70. You can pay privately for it to get it now , but it’s £400 per jab and apparently the latest vaccine you need two jabs six months apart.

Hi RTL
We’ve been to Bletchley twice now. The first time many years ago, the bombe machine - which was working - was still within the Bletchley part of the site. The last time we went it had been moved up the hill to the museum of computing and that had a separate entrance fee so we didn’t go there. The staff said there’d been some sort of fallout and it had been moved. No idea how true that is. There’s so much to see and take in at Bletchley though,  that we’d have needed a second day to visit the museum of computing.
Bletchley is well worth a visit imo.

What is the title of your book, Candleflame?  'Seizing the Enigma' by David Kahn  is a very good read and Tommy Brown is written about in this.  It is hard even to imagine that level of bravery.
And what a responsibility those who worked at Bletchley Park bore on their shoulders!

This one is called ‘ The Secret Life of Bletchley Park’ by Sinclair McKay. The other one I have is also by him and is ‘ The Secret Listeners’. That one is about the Y service . Your library may well have both to borrow. The writer has a particular style such that it can be a bit repetitive on some subjects, but they are still good to read as he’s got quotes from veterans and from biographies that the more famous folk involved have written .

RTL that really interesting about the square and Thomas Brown. I’m currently re reading one of the books on my shelf about Bletchley Park and enigma and the code books.
