Kent / Re: Camfield family of Groombridge,Kent
« on: Tuesday 01 July 14 17:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello,  I noticed this message from some months back and wonder if you are still researching Henry Camfield and his connection to the Groombridge Camfields etc?  My mother was a Camfield and I'm a descendant of the Camfield who owed Groombridge.  One of my distant cousins has done a lot of research into this area and he might be able to help you.  Please let me know and we can take it from there.  Kind regards.  Virginia

Travelling People / Re: Isaacs Family Wincanton

Hi Checkholla, thanks for your messages.  Seems like we're distantly related.  My great-grandmother was Analetta Isaacs who married Albert Camfield.  Analetta was the daughter of James and Trinity Isaacs.  Over the last few years I've been able to put together a reasonable tree of the Isaacs family which I've got on Ancestry.  You said you'd seen me there.  Don't know whether you can access my tree.  There are gaps.  Analetta and Albert travelled around for a while but eventually settled in Cardiff where I still live.  Several years ago I was lucky enough to visit a cousin who has the most amazing photos of the Hicks and the Isaacs when they lived in Wincanton.  They were a really good looking family.  There were two photographs that I think were most likely James and Trinity.  It is an amazing collection.  Matthew was definitely James's brother.  I've had more difficulty piecing together the Hicks family.  That is something I'd really like to do but I don't think it will be easy.  Thanks for the message.  Get in touch if you want any more information.

England / Re: BRITANNIA HEARD (nee HOADLEY) & Fairgrounds

Hi Kate,  I noticed this post whilst looking for something else and although you posted it quite a few months ago I thought I would respond.

My 2 x great grandmother was Sarah Hoadley who married Edward Camfield.  Sarah's brother Job married Matilda Toogood and their daughter was Britannia.   If you are related to Britannia it would make us both descended from James Hoadley and Sarah Furminger.  I'm not sure if you've come across this website http://www.mechanicalorgans.co.uk/gavioli.html which shows pictures of Matilda's gallopers.

I did two threads in the hope that I would get a wider response.  I wanted to do this section because of the travelling link and I did a general one too.  Thanks anyway.

Thank for that.  It does seem as if it may be Furminger.  The birth actually took place in Heavy Waters, Chadwell just north of the river but the Hoadleys travelled in Kent/Essex.  A lot of Hoadleys seem to come from Essex, Kent and Sussex.  At last a new avenue to explore!  Thanks.

Hi, In reply to Mean Genie's reply.  The birth took place at Heavy Waters in Chadwell which is just north of the river.    The Hoadley family were travellers/romanies in Essex & Kent - her siblings were born in Hartney Wintney & Romford.  Thanks.

I've received a copy of Elizabeth Hoadley's birth certificate and I believe she was the younger sister of my 2 x great grandmother Sarah Hoadley.  I really hoped that by finding the maiden name of her mother it would open up some new research.  Unfortunately I can not read it.  I would be grateful if there is anyone out there who could give it a go and come up with some ideas.  Thanks.

I have a copy of Elizabeth Hoadley's birth certificate.  I believe Elizabeth to be the younger sister of my 2 x great grandmother Sarah Hoadley who was married to Edward Camfield.   I really hoped that by discovering the maiden name of Sarah Hoadley (Elizabeth & Sarah's mother) that it would open up new avenues of research.  Unfortunately I really can not decipher the name.  I'd be grateful if anyone else could have a look and see if they can come up with any ideas.  Thanks.
