Maybe, maybe not. Could be the same address....White's Yard and Glasshouse Street, running between Rosemary Lane [later Royal Mint Street] and East Smithfield, had been another glassmaking site. By the mid-19th century, the area was a maze of slums - cramped courts and alleys. It lay in the administrative district of St Mary Whitechapel, rather than that of St George-in-the-East.

The banns were not read in 1839.  The three Sundays were 24 April, 1 May and 8 May in 1842.  You really need to be careful of transcribed records because they rarely take enough care to notice when the year changes in the register.  You can look yourself by going back page by page.

It's been over 10 years since I did my original search. I should have kept my notes because I nearly rejected  Mason as the name of George James wife. I had found a marriage in 1839 when Elizabeth was only 15. Efforts to find this again have failed. Family Search, Ancestry.com have all updated their sites.

There is a marriage in Shoreditch 13 July 1853 of Ann Catherine Mason - father James Hawes Mason occ Boot Closer.  Witnesses were George James Smith and Sarah Smith (Both signed)

Alongside Sarah Smith's signature is written (The Brides Fathers Sister)

Sarah Mason married John Smith of Whitechapel 1839. Totally different Smith family from mine

A bit of luck here because 1881 census he his his father living with him and he died the same year. George James Smith 1819-1881, cordwainer from East Knoyle Wiltshire found his way to London. Here he married Elizabeth Mason in 1842. I have found some banns for 1839 without parental information. I think they were null because the bride was under age, Family search gave her parents as James Hawes Mason 1799-1860 and Elizabeth Walton. James Hawes being a cordwainer or bootcloser seemed I was on track. His father was James Mason 1767-1839, his mother Mary Ann Hawes. His father Robert Mason 1730-1824.
