thanks very much for that information, one puzzle solved, wish I could find a crew list for that voyage

My family is Ricken. I will look at my family tree but I do not remember a P.Richan or Ricken in it. More details please?!

Hello sanricken
Apologies for delay in replying, haven't been on the site for a long time.  Sorry I don't have any more details apart from those I gave in the posts on this thread. Still not sure what the actual name of the sailor was
thanks for asking

Not sure what's happened here, the Redcar & Cleveland list is also on the link Andrea has given below.  No idea where the Durham ones have got to, trying to sort it out

edit: the links are now fixed :)

Hi Mike

Oh yes!! I am still very interested in this, I have been researching the family for my cousin, who is a direct descendant of the Hitchins family involved in the murder, and he will be delighted if you could take a photo and send the 1888 plan.  I will try to send you a personal message with my email address, although I think you may need to reply to this post as you are new to rootschat, before I can pm you.

Many thanks,

Hello Miranda,

Yes the graves do run in sequence, did you get a detailed section A cemetery plan from the cemeteries office before you visited the cemetery? On my main plan of Linthorpe cemetery the A section you need goes from A8919 to A9812 so you were looking in the right place, though a phone call to the cemeteries office might confirm that there is no headstone for your gtgrandfather's grave.

Kind regards,

Have visited the cemetery again and found the grave, but there is no CWGC headstone, just the family headstone for the Denhams, with John William Stewart's name at the bottom.

Please pm me your email address if you would like copies of the photos I took
