Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Help with deciphering handwriting

Thanks for the help. Yes I do believe Arthur invented a farther. That's why I was thinking maybe he left a clue to the real last name in the form of that middle name. Why else put a middle name in a fake name?  I believe the William parton who is the witness is either his cousin or possibly uncle (his mother Elizabeth had a brother William Parton who had a son William...whose daughter is the Alice Margaret).

Thank you for your help! I think you are correct. It must be the Good Templars.

Hmmm maybe.  I updated the scan with a better resolution.  When I look closely at the original, whoever wrote it makes the capital A in Arthur (Groom) differently.  The middle name looks like it starts with the same kind of St as the place name Stottseden.

Hi, I am trying to figure out the middle name of the Groom's father on this marriage certificate.  "William ____ Parton"? By comparing to the other letters on the document I feel like it might be Stother or Stather??  I believe Arthur Parton was illegitimate and so I'm wondering if perhaps this middle name given for the father might in fact be the real last name. And maybe Parton was just added on to save face? Would love to solve this mystery.  Thanks.

Perthshire / Help with identifying this uniform in Perth ~late 1890s -1902

Not sure where else to post this but I have this old photo of my Gr. Grandmother wearing some kind of uniform/vest and I'm trying to find out what kind of organization this is.  The only identifying mark on the back says "87 High St. Perth"  but I'm assuming that is probably the photographer's address.  Given that she looks to be in her late teens or early 20s I am guessing this was taken sometime between 1896-1902. In the 1901 census she is living at 10 Ballantine Place, Perth and her occuptation is Weaver.
Hoping someone might recognize the emblems on the vests.
Thanks

Hi, I'm certain Arthur is not the same Arthur as the one born to the couple Benjamin and ELizabeth.  I believe his mother Elizabeth Parton was unmarried.  She was the daughter of George and Mary Parton living in Stottesdon.  I finally sent away for Arthur and Elizabeth Gittings' marriage certificate but that has just created more questions.  I can't figure out how to attach it so you can see. Maybe I'll try sending it in a message to you. There is a middle name that I feel could be the true last name.  I think it says William Stather or Stother Parton, but it's hard to read.  The witnesses are his cousin Alice Margaret Parton and either Alice's father (also Arthur's cousin), or Arthur's Uncle who is Elizabeth's older brother William Parton. They lived in that same parish in Kidderminster where they got married.  I'm not sure which William Parton is the witness, but maybe he was pretending his Uncle William was his father???  So it's still a mystery....

Arthur is also my 3rd gr. grandfather, by way of Albert Arthur.

Hi Elen!  Yes, I have decided that Elizabeth is the daughter of George and Mary, just based on logical deduction.  I had not been able to find a baptism for her but if you have it that would prove it to me even more!  I have a whole list of children born to George and Mary, and I have been able to go back pretty far on the Parton side.  I think Mary's last name was Tomkins, but I'm not sure about farther back on her side.  I'll send you my email in a private message and we can compare notes.

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Census Look up - Bull
« on: Wednesday 06 August 08 23:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I just came across this post while searching for info about one of my Bull ancestors.  My gr gr. grandmother was Mary Ann Bull born abt. 1808 in Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire.  She married David Preston and lived in North Witchford from 1851 on.  I came across your William while trying to find any of her possible relatives.  I have no idea if they were related but he was the only other Bull on census records of that birth time-frame to also list his birth place as Fenstanton.  I thought I would see if you had any knowledge of your William's parents or siblings names?  I've narrowed Mary Ann's parents down to either a James Bull and Elizabeth Wilkens, or a Henry Bull and Sarah ???

I did find William on the 1851 census living in Doddington, Cambs. with wife Mary and sons George and Robert.  Elizabeth appears to be living in Wimblington with a George and Mary Whaley.  Mary is listed as a school mistress and Elizabeth as a Scholar Boarder.

Hope this is of some help to you, and if you think your William and my Mary Ann might be siblings please contact me.
