Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Security issues?
« on: Tuesday 24 January 23 20:34 GMT (UK)  »
Could you let us know the exact wording of the error message that you are getting, and also the exact name of the files (including the extension eg/ .pdf .doc etc) that you are trying to attach?

Also, if you are able to, can you tell us what the file size of the files are too, please?

Thanks,
Trystan

A post includes replies as well as new topics. A couple of the boards don't count towards the post count (like this board, or the Totally Off Topic board.)

You'll be able to send PMs now.

Enjoy,
Trystan

The issue that was causing this has been found, and has now been fixed.

It turned out to be rogue access to the site, which has now been blocked.

Colin,

You can pass on the name and phone number by Personal Message to Deb1959, I'm sure she'll be delighted.

All you need to do is give us a link to your old profile.

So go to one of your old posts and click on your old username, then post a link to that page.

That's all.

Regards,
Trystan

The Common Room / Re: Passing away of RootsChat member John, ' JDC'

Here is the poem, "The Fallen Limb" read out at his funeral.

A limb has fallen from the family tree.

I keep hearing a voice that says,

“Grieve not for me.

Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.

The good life I lived while I was strong.

Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you.

Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.

Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.

Continue traditions, no matter how small.

Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls.

I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.

Until the day comes we’re together again.”

We are very sad to hear that John has passed away.

He died on 26th June 2022, aged 69. His obituary, provided by AMG Funeral Home can be read here:
https://www.amgfh.com/condolences/obituary.aspx?id=174795
You may add your condolences there also, which will give comfort and support to his loved ones.

A recording of his funeral service can be viewed here:

He was a popular and active member of RootsChat giving much thought and insight in his replies, known to us with his username of 'JDC'. He was active on the site up to a week before he died. His last post was his attempt to find out about his grandparent's mantel clock.

We hope now he is enjoying hearing all the answers as he meets his ancestors for himself.

He will be very sadly missed by us and we express our deepest condolences to his friends and family.

Love,

Guy,

Good point.

Me too to a large extent (in my case Sinclair ZX Spectrum, then an Atari ST when they came out later.)

I also still find a print-out a lot easier to work with than something on a screen.
