Hi Jack,

I'm descended from from Florence Jane Weedon, my great-grandmother, born 1866 died 1956. My dad remembers her well.

You may have seen this already, but in 2010 I visited the grave of Thomas and Elizabeth Mary at St Clements in Oxford. They are buried with Elizabeth's mother Jane. (see attached)

Hi Jwweedon,

I am descended from Thomas Weedon and Elizabeth Mary Wentworth, so there is a strong connection I think.

I haven't looked at this for a while, but this is a message I sent my dad in 2008, which explains where I got to. When I get a chance, I'll try to give you a fuller reply.

Regards

David

"I obtained a copy of the attached marriage licence today at the Gloucester Records office. I believe it is the marriage of the grandparents of Elizabeth Mary Wentworth. Elizabeth's parents were William Wentworth and Jane Evans who married at St Clement Danes Westminster on 07/05/1827.

The 1851 census shows William to come from Setchfield/Letchfield, Gloucestershire and to be aged 49. There is no such place as this, but from looking at other census records (such as Jane Baines of Lambeth, Surrey shown in 1871 as coming from Litchfield, Glos, in 1861 from Litchdale and
1851 from Lechlade), it is probable that he was born in Lechlade. Of the 10 other Wentworths shown in 1851 as being born in Gloucestershire, one was from Bristol, 3 were from Lechlade and the rest were from Cirencester (near Lechlade).

The IGI shows a William Wentworth born 6 Nov 1810 and baptised at Lechlade
23 Jul 1809. Clearly not right, but I have checked the original parish register and it shows that he was actually born on 6th Nov 1801. This person would have been aged 49 at the time of the 1851 census and would have turned
50 on 6th Nov 1851. I think this must be our William.

William's parents were Stephen Wentworth and Mary. Stephen married Mary Mills at Fairford, Glos on 8th Dec 1796 (also recorded in the Lechlade
registers) and the licence is for this marriage. It shows Stephen to be a Butcher (I think William was a Greengrocer in 1841). Stephen's father is shown to be Edward Wentworth, a farmer."

Thanks very much for the info Martin, much appreciated.

It is truly fascinating to see descriptions of my ancestors. I might add I have nothing in common with them!

That's terrific, I hadn't got that marriage, so thanks Susan.

I'll look forward to pursuing it further!

Hi Michaela and Martin

I have read your posts with great interest and I'm grateful for the information.

I am descended from Charles Stephen and "the native", Eleanor Holberton. Their daughter Emma Jane Monger was born at Portland in 1859. She married Willam Bird Everton of County Tyrone who was a Prison Officer at Portland. When he moved to Parkhurst on the Isle of Wight, they settled there and this was where my mother, Charles Stephen's great-great-grandaughter, was born.

I somehow doubt I can add any more to your specific areas of interest!

Thanks again

David

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Hampshire Burials - Clanville

Hi Tony,

I make us 3rd cousins, once removed!

Thanks again for your information, which is most helpful. I would certainly be interested to have further details on siblings etc.

From looking at censuses, I can see that I definitely had the year of birth for Letitia wrong, so thanks for the correct information.

I'm fascinated to discover that Henry Dore fathered a child at 13. Did you manage to find definite proof of this, given there were no birth/baptismal records?

Do you have any idea how Henry and Letitia met? Could it have been through being in Service? I believe Letitia Anne was probably the Anne Waite shown as a housemaid at Tidworth in 1861 (age 24, born Clanville), which would explain why Frederick was living with his grandparents.

In the 1960's/70's my grandfather managed to trace the Dore family back to John Dore born 1570 in Freshwater, Isle of Wight. The line from my grandfather went back as follows:

Harry Percival Dore born 1915 Newport IOW
Archibald Henry Dore born 1899 Cowes IOW
Henry Dore born 1867 Freshwater IOW
Henry Dore born 1845 Freshwater IOW
William Dore born 1810 Freshwater IOW
James Dore born 1764 Freshwater IOW
John Dore born 1735 Freshwater IOW
David Dore born 1702 Freshwater IOW
David Dore born 1670 Freshwater IOW
Nicholas Dore born 1615 Freshwater IOW
John Dore 1570 Freshwater IOW

Best wishes and Happy Christmas.

David

Thanks Tony,

That's an amazing and unexpected amount of new information that's going to take a while to digest!

Letitia was my 3xgreat-grandmother and I'm descended from the Henry Dore born in 1867.

I'll send you a personal message with my e-mail address.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your reply.

My ancestor Letitia Anne Waite was born at either Clanville or Penton Grafton in 1843 to parents George and Mary. She also had a brother Richard born c1832. Any further information on this family would be much appreciated.
