Hi,

I suspect North Hykeham will be shown as either Lincoln or Lincolnshire.  I can't access the census but https://www.familysearch.org/ comes up with this.  No help I'm afraid unless you can find him in earlier censuses with other family members!

Civil Parish: Aston

Welcome to RootsChat Daysy!

Have you tried searching the local papers to see if there was an obituary/funeral notice which might say where the funeral was to take place?

Hi fjhamilton and welcome to RootsChat.

I haven't done any research on this side of my family for quite a while but this certainly looks like the same Joshua; his sister Maria was my great-grandmother.

When you have made 3 postings on RootsChat you will be able to send PM's (personal messages) so if you would like to share any information that is perhaps the best way to go about it.

Hi Alexander,

I know some of the early Eakring registers have been transcribed and are on the church website but I haven't time to go through them for you now.

http://www.st-andrews-eakring.org.uk/   Click on 'The Archives'.

Hope you are lucky.

Why not ask the vicar?

Perhaps I should contact the current owners of Blaco Hill farm, in case they know anything about the history of it. Might be worth a try.

I'd give it a go - can't do any harm!

Hi Donna,

I realise this isn't going to answer your questions but looking at the 1851 census I see that both Richard Undy and William, who appears to be his son, lived in Mattersey Thorpe which seems to be situated between Blaco Hill and Mattersey Grange and I wonder if the Ordnance Survey grid references for these two places will help you to narrow down your search area.

If you 'google' Mattersey Grange you will find some photos with grid reference SK6789.  Likewise Blaco Hill Farm has reference SK6987.  You will also see that Blaco Hill Cottages are now holiday rentals and I wonder if you have considered the possibility that Richard did not actually own his 25 acres but may have been a tenant farmer?

Hope this helps in some small way.

There is a pedigree of Fairfax of Walton on the "Visitations of the North, Part 4" which you can download here:

http://www.uiowa.edu/~c030149a/northern/surtees146text.pdf

In Part 3 are:

Fairfax of Gilling
Fairfax of Steeton
Fairfax of Walton and Gilling

Also there are  biographies of Sir Guy Fairfax (d. 1495) and others in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography which you can access here if you have a Library Card and your Library subscribes:

Hope this helps.
