Scotland / Re: Scottish surname change
« on: Monday 18 March 19 16:43 GMT (UK)  »
My English 2x great grandfather had the name William Sigsworth Parvin. He married in Paisley in 1870 with that name but by 1871 he had dropped the Parvin and now had the surname Sedgeworth, apparently because of the Durham accent he had. There were no Sedgeworths in Scotland prior to this at all.

Having done family history for years I've definitely learned not to get hung up on surname spellings lol.

Hi

It's the 1901 census I was referring to - the property was later owned by my 2x great grandfather and he died there in 1917.

I'm familiar with Wishaw and know where Glasgow Road is but it's obviously changed a lot in the last 100 years lol.

Lanarkshire / 499 Glasgow Road, Wishaw - where was it?
« on: Tuesday 15 January 19 18:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Looking for some map help - can anyone advise where 499 Glasgow Road would have been? I know it was in District 628, Enumeration book No 19 but I can't seem to locate the exact location on a modern map.

Thanks

Hi

I have a connection to John Christie who married Mary Whitehead on 31.12.1868 as she was my 1st cousin 5x removed.

My research shows them having 5 children in Stirling between 1869-1880.

It's through their brother William. He had a son David. William went to Ireland too.

I've done a good bit on Robert Dundas Matthews so will look it out.

Hi Ery

The connection is my husband's as he is descended from Rev Robert Mathie through his son Robert.

What was your wife's connection to the family?

Scotland / Pte James Hunter Argyll & Suth Highlanders And Machine Gun Corps
« on: Sunday 30 November 14 15:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Pte James Hunter 3817 Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and also 139683 Machine Gun Corps

Trying to track down details of this WW1 soldier. He was in two different regiments (according to his medal record on Ancestry) but cannot seem to get any further details on him. A Victory Medal given to him for WW1 was found in the 1980s in Tullibody - I don't know any more than that, and it's hoped that his family can be traced and the medal returned to them.

Can anyone help any further with this?

Tracey
