yes she did - I remember him well he was a lovely gentleman. May and Daisy were very close and remained so as did both their daughters.

I know exactly what you mean!!

It doesn't help when they keep changing their surnames!!

You've been busy!! John Clews Hammonds looks right and fits with the 1881 census. James is a bit of a puzzle though!!

I have found John Clews Hammonds under the name John Rowley in 1911 with wife Elizabeth and 6 children in Red Street Chesterton (a few doors away from James and Susannah)!

I have found James and Susannah in 1881 - living in Bycars (very close to James and Amy) listed as Clowes with John E Hammond age 10.

Just found the Hammond/Clewes marriage in 1874 - I cannot find any children either!

I don't have a marriage for James Rowley (Clewes b 1845) and Susannah but I have found him in 1911 and they are listed as being married for 38 years (fits with your 1874 marriage) with 2 children. I cannot find him between 1861 and 1901. Intriguing!

I also have not managed to find a death for Joseph Reginald Goodhead - Sorry I can offer no help there!!

Yes,  I think you are right about James.
It took me a while to find James and Amy in 1881! I initially missed Dora - she is still living with the Rowleys under her married name of Plant in 1911. I also missed Reginald Clive too!

John Podmore (born 1874) died in unfortunate circumstances in 1890 after an accident as he was driving a cab. (John Podmore senior also ran an undertakers with his brother George (a carpenter who made the coffins) and was a cab proprietor as well as making mineral water/ginger beer etc!).
The Podmores are quite an interesting family although some of them are a bit elusive!!

Hi William

I have not been able to find the Rowley family in 1871. In 1881 James and Amy are in Bycars, Burslem (as they are in 1861 and 1891) with Herbert and Annis. I would assume that they would be there in 1871 too but I cannot find a trace of them there (or anywhere else for that matter!)

Let me know if you manage to track them down!
