World War One / Re: Leeds Army/Civilian unit - any ideas?
« on: Friday 01 June 12 09:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello Duncan39,
thanks for your PM. I am a very rare visitor to Rootschat nowadays, so otherwise I would have missed your postings.
What is the source of your Henry John Sykes? I can't follow it on FindMyPast nor Apecestry.
I am still sticking to my guns regarding Leeds.
Go to Google street view  - search on Park Row Leeds (southern end). You will see the right hand side of the black and white photo in full 2012 technicolour.
Regards
Dave

An afterthought...
it is deffo The Council House.
Go to http://www.oldukphotos.com/graphics/England%20Photos/Warwickshire,%20Birmingham,%20Council%20House%20c.1915%20-%201280pix.jpg
this photo clearly shows the distinctive building to the right of the Council House.
Wonder where the cameraman was positioned? Up on one of the statues perhaps.

Hi bruceL,
A scan of the back would be a good idea, you never know what might transpire.
My owner does do strange things:
Comes in the front door and then walks to the garden door to be let out.
Sits on my keyboard.
Cheers

Hang on BruceL,
Plays In The Parks was a feature of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. So looking again at Birmingham - and thinking the parade would be in the area of the Town Hall, I came to the postcode B3 3DQ. Look at the northern edge of Victoria Square. The buildngs and road layout have changed in recent years, but I think the parade is passing The Council House.

Hello Amanda and Sue,
Thank you for your replies.
Amanda, I will PM you as your great aunt's autograph book would be of great interest to the Museum.
Sue, thanks for the heads up (we are aware of Cantelupe Road, thank you). I will set to and investigate the images of the Cooden Hospital.
Much obliged

kaye,
you can view Edwards service record at: http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx
'Search Now As Guest' then on results page click on the digitised album.
You will see that he had three stays in hospital. Two of them in England. I fancy the photo was taken during January 1919 when he was in 3 AA Hospital, Dartford, Kent.
Cheers

Try GU2 4ES.
This is Beech Lane Guildford. Make your way to the northern end of the road, where it joins The Mount. The Cemetery is on your left.
Local authority contact is at crematorium@guildford.gov.uk they ought to be able to provide a grave map.
Cheers
Dave
