Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Elias Jarrett - bc 1801
« on: Sunday 22 September 24 13:11 BST (UK)  »
Thank you so much for this information.  Certainly a lot of interesting details.

Is there any evidence of a connection of Richard to Elias Jarrett 1776-1838?

Thanks again,
Emma

Kent Lookup Requests / Elias Jarrett - bc 1801

Hi all,

I'm looking for a baptism record for an Elias Jarrett, who married Ruth Knight in 1824 in Upchurch, Kent.

There is a death record in 1828 in Minster in Sheppey of an Elias Jarrett, aged 27 - at this point, I'm considering this to potentially be the same person, as Elias and Ruth's daughter was living with her grandmother in 1851.

At present, I can't link Elias further back, but think I may have found a family for him.  If anyone is able to find a baptism record for him, that would be amazing!

Many thanks,
Emma

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Ralph Marwood - Osmotherley? - ca.1685
« on: Saturday 11 November 23 13:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have Ralph Marwood in my tree.  He married Ann Bell on 25th January 1708 in Osmotherley.

I am looking for a baptism for Ralph, which I am currently assuming would be in the North Yorkshire area and taken place between 1670 and 1690.

I would be most grateful for any input with this - thank you in advance!

Armed Forces / Re: Army records from 1940s - any advice appreciated!

Thank you!  Military records are not an area I'm overly familiar with, so it's a good job there are people like you!  Will take a look at the other threads.

Armed Forces / Army records from 1940s - any advice appreciated!
« on: Saturday 10 June 23 20:34 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

I have been contacted by someone who is looking for information on someone who may or may not be linked to me.  They have no other information other than the person's name, rough year of birth and the fact that they were in the army.

The period of time we are talking about is around 1947 - the time of their marriage - and their son was born the following year.

The gentleman in question (if he is the one in my tree) was born in 1928 and is now deceased.

While I appreciate that a marriage certificate would shed some more light on this, is there any access to military records that are this recent?

Many thanks!

Thank you!  I'm intrigued as to why they were only ever together on one census?  And what happened to George?

I'm driving myself mad with this one!

Essex / Dobby/Sparrowhawk - West Ham 1861 onwards

I've got the following family group in 1861:

2 Burham Street, West Ham

William Dobby, Head, 34, Ship Carpenter, South Shields (Durham)
Esther Dobby, Wife, 33, Milliner, Middlesex
George Dobby, Son, 12, Scholar, Middlesex

RG9/1056 F37, P38

In 1851, Esther was with her son:

23 Waterloo Vale, Westoe, Durham

Esther Dobby, Wife, 23, Mariner's wife, London (transcribed as 'Dabby')
George Dobby, Son, 2, London Aldgate

HO107/2399 F188 P58

I know that William Westbrook Dobby married Esther Caroline Sparrowhawk on 9th January 1853.

Esther also had a son, George William Sparrowhawk, in Q Dec 1848, East London Union.

I can't find William Dobby in 1851, but he does reappear in 1871, listed as the brother of the housekeeper at the Tower Hamlets Dispensary.  He is stated as being married, aged 44 and a shipwright.  RG10/534 F65 P22.
He is then on the 1881 census, still at the Tower Hamlets Dispensary, this time listed as brother.  He is still stated as married, aged 54 and a shipwright.  RG11/463 F88 P49.
William Dobby died in December 1883.

I am stuck with Esther Dobby after 1861, as well has her son George William Dobby/Sparrowhawk.  If anyone is able to fill the gaps, I'd be most grateful!

Many thanks,
Emma

I'm not certain who Ann is either. I've always put it down to enumeration error.

Maria passed away in 1846 and by 1851, Thomas (hatter) was a lodger in Scotland. His birth year was around 1792, so is out on the 1841 census.
