The Common Room / A surprising coincidence
« on: Tuesday 20 February 24 18:03 GMT (UK)  »
I have known for sometime that my ancestor James Minton, was involved along with his brother in law in 1804, in removing a page from the Longford parish records re: the baptism of William Tatlow. I had noted this but done nothing further.
I was looking through Longford Parish registers trying to sort out Goodall relatives, when to my surprise there  was the affidavit of Thomas Sutton (another relative) relating to the crime.
This has sparked my interest and I will now be seeing if I can find out why (money was involved) but I would like to know the outcome. both the criminal charges and the disposal of the estate.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I had googled the word opifex but it seemed to me to be too wide a description, that is opifex is a craftsman of some sort, I thought a tailor would have not have been so loosely described, which was the reason for my question.
It just read Geo Norman opifex

I have a George Norman an opifex being the guarantor of a wedding licence. I also have the burial of a George Norman a tailor.
Is it possible that they are the same person, In the licence the groom was described as a tonsor, later he was described as a barber.

Emma is one of the names that is sometimes substituted for Amelia . There are 2 records on the other she is Emily

Nottinghamshire / Re: Witness to wedding who was he

Thank you for your interest, the two deaths you mentioned have set me on further exploration, unfortunately I don't know the occupation of my Thomas, the T. Lord that signed Elizabeth Ayre's marriage looks very like the signature on Thomas's daughter Jane . I am now going to revisit all my information and see if Sophia ( wife of John Anthony) fits in or whether I have some major revisiond to make

Nottinghamshire / Witness to wedding who was he

I recently saw the online picture of the wedding of John Mee and Elizabeth Ayre which took place December 1816, one of the witnesses appears to be T.Lord,  fine this could be her maternal grandfather Thomas Lord except I thought he had died in 1802,cousins and uncles don't seem to fit, wrong death ? or unknown so far?

Thank you for your replies, the burials occurred in the 1780s so within the time frame of the act.
