I am amazed!  Thank you so much for the information you have provided. Although I have several certificates for the family, I did not follow up on the marriage of Victoria Alberta Lea in 1875. It would have made my task much easier if I had done so.  William James Lea, together with his wife and son also arrived in Queensland later in 1876.

Again my sincere thanks you have made my day, and we will always be so grateful to you.

Mary

Fanny was Christened on the 15th April, 1849 at St. Matthew's Church, Walsall, Staffordshire.
Parents:  John and Sarah LEA. (John died in 1856)
The Census for 1871 (England & Wales). Fanny has left home, she is employed as a Servant at The Green Dragon INN, Walsall!

Thank you for your reply and suggestions. Fanny had no other family in the USA.  Neither parent left a will.  I have researched the census returns.  I did find a family with a wife named Fanny whose details seemed to fit. However, when I found the marriage of the couple it was not our Fanny!
It would have been nice to know how Fanny fared upon her arrival in the US, but this may not be possible.

I have found who we believe is my husband's GG Aunt, Fanny Lea, aged 22, Spinster, leaving Liverpool, England in 1872.
She sailed for New York aboard 'City of New York', arriving in New York 15th April 1872.
Is there anyway we can find further information?

Thanks again Kay and Kim,
Re the 1851 census - Good suggestion and interesting to see John Rob is a Mason. However, this is not the John Rob I am interested in. Having done all the research into the family of Christina Thomson, there is no connection.

John Robb born in 1829 is a possibility, which I will follow up.

I will check the deaths mentioned in England.   It is a case of tying up the loose ends in the family tree and wondering what happened to him.

Thank you Kay and Kim,
I have checked the death of John Robb (1853) on Scotlandspeople but it was a 10 month old child who died of 'teething'.

I will check out John Robb on ancestry, although I am doubtful about him - although he is a Mason,
he would have been married the day before the census was taken!

Dunbartonshire / John ROBB - Where was the Groom?

John ROBB and Christina THOMSON (my Great Grandmother) were married in Bonhill on the 29/3/1851. The census for 1851 was taken the following day. According to the census Christina THOMSON is still at home living with her widowed Mother in Jamestown Village and unmarried! There were two children from the marriage, John ROBB born May 1851 and Isabella in 1853. Christina gave birth to the first of two illegitimate daughters in 1856.  On the 1861 census her status is 'widow'.  I have been unable to find a death for John ROBB.  According to Isabella's marriage certificate her deceased Father's occupation was a 'Mason' I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hello Jonn

Thank you for your reply. I have the details of the 1881 census.  I was about to try looking for the death of Peter Elliot, but you got there before me and I am so grateful!  I will now download the details from his death registration.    Thanks again,

Hi Andy,

Thanks again - I will follow up on what you have found and let you know the results!
           Mary

Hi Andy,
Your longshot proved to be correct!  I spent some time today on 'Scotlands people' and have downloaded several records, including the marriage in 1867 of Christina Thom(p)son (34) to Peter Elliot(25) His Father was Matthew Elliot!   I have the birth registrations of the three children and the marriage of Mary in 1887.  The family search.org website - 1891 census shows Christina Elliot, also Matthew born 1870 but I was unsuccessful in finding the names on Scotlandspeople which would have shown more details.
Please accept my sincere thanks for your help, I appreciated it so much especially as I was beginning to feel as though I would never discover the identity of my Great Grandfather or the birth date of my Grandmother.
