The Common Room / Re: Why did parents stop christening their children post-1837?
« on: Sunday 03 November 19 02:33 GMT (UK)  »
I'm wondering if it was economically driven.  It was compulsory to register and cost money so perhaps people didn't have the means to also pay the church to baptise their kids.

Variations of this name were recorded in Tasmania, Australia, circa 1840.  The person was said to be Spanish (by later generations) and came from the town of Ronda.  Does anyone know if this would be a Spanish name?

Any suggestions, ideas etc would be most gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Irene

I doubt if its the same Maud Radford, as the one who married into McArdell family was married in from memory 1903 so not likely to be the one you are searching for.

Hi Legion,

I have your Patrick George McArdell as marrying Maud Radford, my gr grandmother was his sister the eldest child of Patrick and Mary (nee Cleary) born in Feb 1862.

I havent seen any reference to Patrick Snr as having the middle name William.  Even his will just gives the one name and also surname spelt McArdle.  I estimated his year of birth as 1829 but its more a guess.  Would love to hear from you to share info,  please contact me on (*)   I live in Gympie btw.

Cheers and thanks for responding,
Irene

Shropshire / Re: ADDERLEY Marriage 1829

Hi, thanks for reply.

All of mine seem to be around the Whitchurch/Adderley/Norton in Hales/Market Drayton area,  with a cross into flintshire (Bangor-Isy-Coed).

If I could only find someone who could view the actual parish record of the 1829 marriage it might give me a clue.

Cheers,
Irene

Thank you for trying Dawn.  Insofar as the Greenford entry - he was supposed to have been born in Greenford but certainly his parents and sisters are buried in Hanwell.    Also I was given an email address and the name of the Reverend at Greenford and I wrote to him a while back and received the reply that he couldnt help - any information would be at London Records Office or something like that.

Once again thanks for trying Dawn - it was appreciated.

Irene

Hi Dawn, Yes I still require this info.  Never been able to find his birth/baptism.  In fact would be interested in any Clay/Haydon information from that area.
