Thanks Osprey.  I don't have a definite marriage for Mary.  Yes Thomas was buried at Eglwysilan on 3 April 1860 and the monumental index is a year out but I think the person who took the details down mistranscribed an old stone.  Rebecca and Isaac were twins and Rebecca married Evan Jenkins of Nantgarw in 1853 and died 24 Jun 1854 and is buried at Eglwysilan. I have an Issac in Bedwellty in 1851 working as a minor, in 1861 in Llantrisant working as a Labourer and after that as an Ostler but I'm not certain the census records all belong to him. I've also seen the record for Thomas and Mary but I've seen them in 1861 also so I don't think that's them as he was dead by then.  Thanks for trying.  Maybe I need to find out from the National Archive if there IS a District 6 because I have a lot of family in Eglwysilan!

I have a number of family members who lived in and around Eglwysilan in 1851 but are missing from the Census.  I have looked up another family member who IS in the Census on Ancestry.Com and then I changed the Enumeration District and have been all the way through from District 1 to District 7 and couldn't find my 3 x Great Grandfather.  I will start on the districts around the village but my query is - was there ever a District 6?  I've trawled Districts 1, 2, 3a, 3b, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b and 7 but then I realised there is no District 6 mentioned on Ancestry.  Does anybody know if this is because it is missing/destroyed or because it doesn't exist?  My Find my Past subscription has just expired and I can't check on there.  When you look up what Census records are missing for 1851, Eglwysilan isn't mentioned.  Thanks in advance any help gratefully received.

Hello Mark it's good to hear from you.  ^(*) and ^(*) are my aunt and uncle (I'm ^(*) daughter).  I don't know where to start.  I have traced our ancestors as far back as 1662 (I think) but still have to verify some of it and it ground to a halt recently due to Christmas and planning a new kitchen!  I have attached a copy of my findings (if you can read it).  Most of the family came from Groeswen or Eglwysilan near Caerphilly or from Llantrithyd (there's lots of Christophers in the churchyard there who are related to us).  Castellau Fawr was a lovely house (well it still is - it was for sale recently).  ^(*) is also on this forum and is a cousin of ours who lives near St Mary Church.  Most of the farms between Cardiff and Bridgend had or have relatives living on them at one time or another.

It's good to hear from you and I will keep you posted if I find anything interesting.....

Thanks Osprey that would make sense.  It's from a gravestone but I haven't seen it I've only got a typed transcript.
