This William is not our man. he appears on 1901 census with wife & family as a railway signalman as per Tamor's probate record.

John Winship married Jane Kitching sq 1864.

Re the 1871 census I believe Emily Winship aged 9 c1862 to be Emily Kitching

if I'm reading this right we have a William b 1898(UK?) , a John Joshua 1899 mmn Eggers and then a Thomas 1901 South Africa??

Believe the family sailed from Southampton on the 7.7.1900 to the Cape on the Dunvegan Castle.

Mr W winship aged 28 = c1872  occ Dealer  ( a carpenter when he marries)
Mrs E Winship aged 26
Master W        aged 2
Master J          aged 1

Are we possibly looking for alater birth for William snr??

It's been an interesting search for the Donkins, and I just wondered a couple of things that you probably have an answer to. When George 1870 married Mary Hannah Laing in 1892 what did he record his father's occ as.

In 1881 Ann/Elizabeths 2 siblings John & George  in the household of a George Donkin & Isabella (nee' Jennings. Interesting census ref RG11 5035 63 4

Are you aware of another 3 Donkin/Straker births other than those known.

Finally are you convinced that William Donkin Ann's father was born in York, I must admit i'm not for various reasons.

A possibility, to start with there are no Jean Patricia Clifton births recorded in the UK in 1920+/- 1 year

David, Posting this again for the back burner and info. Following the post by MonicaL and yourself re the "F" in name. If, and I mean if, he was Thomas Francis McDonough then he may well have been economical with his info. There is a birth of a Thomas Francis in 1904 Birkenhead with mmn Mason. His parents marriage 1903 Birkenhead--William George McDonough & Agatha Mary Mason. Agatha & children in 1911 census below.

One of the residents in the house is a Daniel McDonough aged 57 (C1854) married. Could this possibly be the Daniel who married Mary Gerrard on the 23.7.1882 who was aged 27 (c1855) at marriage.

Changing the subject, was the Jeanie Muir McFall the daughter of John & Elizabeth the one you were looking for, if so a great result.
