London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: George William Chapman
« on: Monday 12 April 21 19:36 BST (UK)  »
The following will need checking out but think the below is your William.

His parents marriage

Marriages Dec 1871   (>99%)
Baalham    Alice Eleanor        Mile End    1c   1275
Beith    Sarah                Mile End    1c   1275
Chapman    Arthur    Mile End    1c   1275
SCOTT    Alfred Thomas        Mile End    1c   1275

William was born

CHAPMAN, WILLIAM       mothers maiden name BEITH
GRO Reference: 1884  D Quarter in POPLAR  Volume 01C  Page 696

His father Arthur dies aged 44 in 1888 Poplar

Sarah his mother re-marries Thomas Pamplin

Marriages Dec 1890
Chapman    Sarah        Poplar    1c   1061
Elliott    George Frederick        Poplar    1c   1061
Neale    Emma        Poplar    1c   1061
Pamplin    Thomas        Poplar    1c   1061

They appear on 1891/1901 census

William then first marries Minnie Elizabeth Walsh 25.12.1910 -his father recorded as Arthur.

William and Minnie probably have 3 daughters 1911,1914,1919.

William then appears to marry Rose Patient in 1920.

As said in an earlier post his marriage cert to Rose should confirm his father's name. If it is Arthur his occupation was a carman at marriage in 1871 & the 1881 census.

William & Rose appear to have had 3 children. George William 1921 who was possibly called up in 1939.

William dob 8.6.1885/7-18.11.1964 (aged 79 = 1885) Probate to Rose Jessie Chapman

Rose(Jessie) dob 8.6.1898- 1989

I should have included the maiden name of Janet which was Macmillan. Well, I assume so from the info left by my grandfather"

If this is the family you seek and the 1901 census is correct then I think Janet's surname could be DEWAR as per the below baptism.

Added,
If you purchased a few credits from Scotlandspeople then one of the 2 below birth registrations should show Dugalds parents as John/Janet with her maiden name.

Whilst I can find no evidence in 1911 would it have been a possibility that as he would have been 16 by the time of census he was in the military.

Rod, looks as though both Robert Jermey and Frederick Tomsett both married after their spell in prison. Frederick was in Dartmoor in 1939 occ retired cook as per newspaper article.

Do you think Robert Jermey/Ernest Frank was the son of Robert Lakeman and a Ms Jermey?

Wonder if other's with more experience can help Rod with regard to Winifred. The newspaper article suggests Robert Ernest Jermey was the adopted son of one Winifred Tomsett aged 42 who was living with a Frederick Tomsett. Is this Winifred Robert Lakelands first wife nee Morriss. Winifred appears in 1939 reg with a dob of 21.5.1894. I think she dies in 1980 with a dob given as 2.7.1893. There is also a possible school record with a dob 26.11.1893.

Thanks in advance

John
