The link that SS has added to a family tree takes William John Powell's ancestry in a different direction. Parents showing as John Joseph Powell and Elizabeth Welford, with the family residing in the Croydon area.

Gordon, do you have a copy of the 1948 marriage cert? As Sandra asked earlier, what was William John's marital status when he married? Witnesses's names?

Monica

I'm not convinced the tree on An* is fully correct re William Powell. We certainly do appear to have found his death in 1953.

The only refernce to the death of William James Powell, that I have seen is 1953 in Croydon, Surrey. This is clearly wrong, as his youngest child was born in 1956 in Croydon, Surrey (wife's maiden name was Holt).

He was born c1906, from his marriage certificate. His death would be between 1955 and 1972, when his wife, Edna J Powell, married a Mr Collins.

Gordon

Clearly incorrect

Death cert proves he died 1953

Whilst I'm  always very very wary of trees on Ancestry this one was of interest. Could not resist downloading this death cert in 1953. For those with Anestry subs the link is

Do you think the informant is Edna Joan?

Again so pleased for you. So that means you now know when and where William John Powell was born who his parents are, whom he married and where his son William James Powell as born. Please do tell us, I'm sure many other rootschatters would love to know.

Hi Gordon, so pleased you appear to have solved the puzzle. Would you kindly explain to an old man how this has been solved. Could you supply the link for the 1892 ref you have from FindMyPast.
