Lincolnshire / Re: Fishing/Freiston Shore
« on: Wednesday 20 March 13 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
I used to go fishing - rod and line, on this part of the sea shore, living nearby.
There was the remains of an old wooden jetty that used to be for passengers to get in the sightseeing boats that used to get inshore.
The tidal rise is very big along this part of the coast, and with some very deep creeks- 6' to 10' deep near the sea bank it was quite easy for boats to use this area.
If you were local you learned the tide times and could wander out a long way from shore as the tide ebbed but had to be very quick getting back before the tide turned  or you got cut off and had a long swim with some dodgy currents.
There were several downed WW2 a/c exposed at low tide - good for trophy hunting.
Good fun but very mucky --- ideal for kids.

I would like to sell it all, preferably in one  lot. No reasonable offer refused. Contact me for a list

There is a microfiche available from Lincs FHS which has
a] Boatmen and boatowners Lincoln city register 1795
b] Lindsey boat register 1795
c] Lincoln city reports on canal boats 1877
Might be of help -- only £1.00

Lincolnshire / Re: CHARLES MAYNARD MARSH

Several of my rellies were ship carpenter and shipwright.
Some spent their life on long distance trips - children only appear every few years !!
some were on local - coastal or inland waterways, and children appear more frequently!!
They rarely appear in censuses etc as they were afloat and were not recorded unless in harbour
Some overseas trips lasted many years

Lincolnshire / Re: Robert Hough

Most of the Hough's/ Hoff's appear to be in parishes along the Lincs/Notts border.
I can find only the marriage of Robert, so I would suggest that you hunt in Nottinghamshire.

Can't find a marriage within county or country for these 2 persons.
Perhaps they didn't
There is an Amelia Tomlin of appropriate age in Spalding. 1841 census. with no child.
