Lanarkshire / Re: look up offer - crawfordjohn death records
« on: Tuesday 19 August 14 16:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi - Can you look up any George Paton, or Jean/Janet Paton in the Crawfordjohn death records. They were married (George Paton & Jean Colthart) in Crawfordjohn in 1756. Also any John Colthart and Elizabeth Colthart, who were Jean's parents. Jean Colthart was born in Crawfordjohn in 1725.
Thanks - Tom Moffatt    tmoffatt at xplornet dot com

I am also attempting to research this Robert Buchanan who I believe married 9 Oct 1789 in Maryport, Cumberland.  The daughter Augusta (born & baptized 1792) married a Thomas Dunnett - the lineage goes down to an interesting California family.

Best wishes

Although the posting is 7 years old, I am hoping some one is still active on this one.

I have been researching a series of David Lapraik individuals, that first shows up in Galston, Ayrshire in marrying Agnes Maxwell in 1794, and then he or or his son David move to Paisley, and become involved first in weaving, and then in dyeing. The dyeing occupation continued in the family from the 1830s until the 1940s, when they were in Ontario, Canada.

I strongly suspect the David Lapraik, youngest child of James Lapraik and Helen Johnston, and born in 1771 is the same individual who marries Agnes Maxwell a few kilometres away in Galston in 1794.

Anything further on the 18th century part of this family? Or earlier?

Longford / Re: Entire 1790 Longford Voters List transcribed

Longford records are quite incredible really. Don't know if your families are Protestant or Catholic. Either way there are some truly excellent resources. From about 1750 there are a lot of leases that were registered, but that mostly works for Protestants (no surprise there!) just as the voting list does.

One thing about the 1790 Voter lists - there are places where it is very difficult to decipher the writing of both names and locations. If there is a particular entry of interest, email me at *   and I will get you a jpg of it.

Don't know what the problem was you had - I just checked the list and it downloaded fine and came up quickly. Perhaps check whether you have a reasonably updated acrobat reader.

Sligo / Need RCB Library Researcher
« on: Saturday 12 February 11 18:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi -

ANYONE A RESEARCHER USING THE RCB LIBRARY IN DUBLIN?

I need a lookup in the Emlaghfad (RCB labels it as Emlafad) C of I register for early MOORE family, with births around 1782. The registers begin at 1762. This is a parish in Sligo.

Anyone know of someone willing to do a pretty straight-forward examination of the registers for Emlaghfad?

Please contact me at (*)

Longford / names and records
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 14:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there - Records adre a lot scarcer for Catholics - they literally were second class folks at the time, so the land leases etc. don't help. I just checked the tithe applotment records, which was almost a head of household census when done - in the case of Clongesh it was 1825. There is only one Mallon there at the time - Charles Mallon in the townland of DEERPARK, which is adjacent to the demesne of Castle Forbes, on the north side. There were no Andersons there - and indeed Anderson is rare in Longford - only 6 listings , and all on the eastern side of the county. then in the Griffiths Valuation, there are three references to Thomas Mallon in Cloonellan Townland. It would be almost due west of Longford Town. There are no Andersons at all in Clongesh. A Margaret at Ballymahon, a couple in Longford Town. Still a rare name.
The Catholic Register in Newtownforbes does exist from 1829. Don't know where you are, but the Mormon Microfilm is #1279219 - it covers 1829 to 1881.

Except for possible Newspaper articles, that is about all I can think of.

I have completely rebuilt a website that has Walsh material - on the site, look at "Allied Families".
