Regarding my last message, seems like Rebecca was very young when she got married and so highly unlikely to have been a widow.  There may have been an error in the record.  Its possible that Raphoe marriages of the time might have included both parents.

I have no connection to your family but I think the townland you are looking for is Cavandarragh (or perhaps a variant spelling of same).

As suggested earlier, I also think it may be Hayden.

Sorry for taking so long to get back McCann.  If the father of Eliza's daughter was Irish I think the surname would have to be some sort of variant of McKegg rather than McKegg itself.  He may not have been from the same area as Eliza so I dont think its necessary to find all three surnames in the same place.

It might be worth posting something to the Donegal forum.  Something on the lines that you have an Elizabeth 'Eliza' Given born 1850-1852, parents Robert Given and Ann Dane/Downs or variant spelling and you are trying to identify whether its possible they may have been from the Dunkineely area.  I could be way off but it wont hurt to try.

Hello McCann, well Dunkineely was a guess rather than something definite, and I wouldnt want to send you off on any false leads or anything.  However, the parish for Dunkineely is Killaghtee and according to www.failteromhat.com there were Given's living in the Parish including a Robert Given in Gilbertstown.  There were also Deane's in the parish including a couple in Gilbertstown.  Have you ever heard Donegal mentioned or Killybegs?  You won't get a census record or civil birth record for the time as previously mentioned.  Possible you might get a baptism though but I wouldnt want to give you false hope.

As I said I was guessing at Dunkineely, does anyone think its a possibility?

Hi Carolyn,
There is only one letter difference between Ballyhaunis and Ballyhaulis (which is what your scan looks like to me), so I think Ballyhaunis worth considering.

And just to add, people often gave their nearest town so your Noone's may have been from one of the surrounding townlands rather then the town itself.

Best of luck with your search,
Donny

Could it perhaps be Ballyhaunis.  I do hope you manage to solve your puzzle.
