I have put this in the Common Room because Mary's history involves 3 counties.
Sorry about the amount of information listed here, but I wanted to show what I have already researched to save taking up Rootschatter’s valuable time.
I am trying to establish the real maiden name of Mary Denyer, the grandmother of Daniel Hawes b.1903 Canning Town MMN Burn. OND W. Ham 4a 164
From this I found his baptism St Luke, Victoria Docks May 8th 1905 to Daniel (a sailor) and Fanny.
From this I found a Marriage entry for Daniel Hawes and Fanny Elizabeth Burn OND 1902 West Ham 4a 559. I have not been able to locate a parish marriage entry online for this.
From this I found a 1911 census entry for the family Registration District Number:188 Sub-registration District: Canning Town ED, institution, or vessel:36 Piece: 9506. With Fanny born c.1882 Canning Town. I found a GRO entry for Fanny Elizabeth Burn Mar 1883 West Ham 4a 128 MMN FULLER.
I could not find a marriage for this, so I went to Census entries instead:
1901 West Ham Piece:1584 Folio:145 Page number: 50 Household schedule number: 308
John b.1846 Southampton Hants General Labourer
Mary b.1846 Warnham Sussex
Fanny b.1882 Canning Town
Alice b.1889 Canning Town
1891 West Ham Class: RG12; Piece:1327; Folio:59; Page: 50
John Burn 1847 King’s Somborne Hants
Mary Burn 1846 Warnham Sussex
Ellen Denyer 1876 (Step Daughter) Woolwich North
Fanny E Burn 1883 Canning Town
Using the step daughter’s name I found an entry on the 1881 census for West Ham
Mary Denyer b.1845 Sussex Widow
Ellen Denyer b. 1878 West Ham
Listed as a boarder is John Burn b.1848 Hampshire Widow Railway Labourer and his daughter Rose T Burn b.1881 (7 weeks old) West Ham (have found no other record of her)
From this I found a marriage 1882 1c 458 Bethnal Green 17th December St James the Great, John Burn (bachelor) occ labourer father (deceased) George Burn to Mary Denyer (widow) father Edward DENYER (Labourer).
I also found a marriage for Ellen (middle name listed as Jane) Denyer with John Burn as a witness, so I am sure that it is her. July 9th 4a 263 1898 St Luke Victoria Docks to James Sparkes. She lists her father as James Denyer occ Labourer. From this I found a birth entry for Ellen Jane Dyner which I believe to be her 1878 West Ham JFM 4a 68 MMN JONES. I couldn’t find a baptism for this.
I cannot find a birth entry for Alice c.1889 to see what the MMN is listed as, but I have found 2 marriages with John listed as her father.
I have tried to find Mary’s first marriage and also her birth and census records before the 1881 census with no luck and there is quite a bit of conflicting information. I am hoping fresh eyes and knowledge with help me unravel this. Thank you
