Just a  point that may help others when attempting to help you. Although I haven't quite made out what is written yet, I do think the transcription 'Dord' is likely incorrect:

Lanarkshire / Re: The PATONS of Rutherglen
« on: Monday 15 April 24 08:24 BST (UK)  »

My first is George who came over from Ireland and married Cathrine (Catheren) DUFFY on 14 March 1848.

This marriage:

DUFFY
CATHRINE
GEORGE PATON
/FR785 (FR785)
14/03/1848
654
40 / 127
RUTHERGLEN

So, when saying your great Great Grandfather John, who also seems to be a Paton, based on the 1859 marriage:

MCCABE
BRIDGET
PATON
JOHN
1859
654 / 57
RUTHERGLEN

was born in 1840, which is c8 years earlier than the George/Cathrine marriage, can you clarify who his parents were as presumably not George and Cathrine? Are you trying to connect John's family to George's family?

I now see the 1851 census has the following group at 43 King Street, Rutherglen:

George   Paton   Head   Married   Male   43   1808   Coal miner
Catherine   Paton   Wife   Married   Female   22   1829
Jean   Paton   Daughter   Unmarried   Female   8   1843
John   Paton   Son   Unmarried   Male   11   1840
James   Paton   Son   -   Male   2   1849

so, given the large age difference between George and Cathrine, were John and Jean born to a former wife of George?

Unfortunately, I am not immediately seeing a Paton family at 43 King Street, Rutherglen (where you have stated your John was born in 1840) in the 1841 census, or indeed a local/nearby family group with an Irish born George and a son John. Nor am I immediately seeing the 1840 birth of John, or the c1843 birth of Jean anywhere in Scotland.

Have you viewed an original copy of the 1851 census to see what birth place/s are listed for each member of the household at 43 King Street then? A transcript I have viewed suggests 'Armash', Ireland, which could more likely be 'Armagh'. What original record do you have showing your John as born in 1840 at King Street?

In John's 1859 marriage record, what names are listed for his parents?

In 1861 census, a John and Bridget Paton are living at 43 King Street, with John noted as born Ireland.

My (hopefully helpful), suggestion, would be to re-visit your research, view as many original records as possible and work methodically through same, cross referencing with as many original sources as possible. At a very quick glance, I can see numerous online trees with equally as numerous discrepancies between the 'facts' contained in them, but apparently for John's family group. Some of those have his mother as an Agnes Crawford, does this match with the details on the 1859 marriage of your John?

Have you considered checking this death in case there has been a transcription error:

ARNEIL
ALEX

Ignore, just realised you are looking for an RC death. This one is CofS.

It would have been good if the document was legible as it would have at least given me a lead on where the family come from in Ireland

It's early for Irish records, albeit some do exist, though often not online.

It can be helpful if you know religion.

Have a play around with the surname tool at

https://www.johngrenham.com/surnames/

especially adding in the second surname.

This will give you an idea of the spread of the Bamford (and variants) surname around mid 1800s, and an indication of where both surnames appeared in same area. Although a bit later than the timescale for your couple, it should give you some areas to consider a bit more closely.

Also, have a look at the instances of a John Bamford in the Tithe Applotment records. Again, whilst it may not include your John, it can give an indication of possible areas with the surname present in 1820s and/or 1830s.

What respective parents' names have been recorded on the death registrations of John and his wife (assuming they died in Scotland after mid 1850s that is)?

For the son, Thomas, in Scotland:

Name           Thomas Bamford
Sex.             Male
Father's Name   John Bamford
Father's Sex   Male
Mother's Name   Helen Currie
Mother's Sex   Female
Event Type   Christening
Event Date   26 Sep 1841
Event Place   Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland, United Kingdom

so, from checking on Scotlandspeople, it is a Church of Scotland record.

Lanarkshire / Re: Elizabeth Ramage (b.1873) father Robert Ramage Old Monkland
« on: Saturday 06 April 24 10:47 BST (UK)  »
1900 census at Perry includes:

Name
Robert Ramage
Birth
Nov 1834 Scotland
Marriage
1858
Arrival
1880
Residence
1900 Coal, Perry, Ohio, USA

with his wife indexed as Annie.

The 1880 census at Perry has Robert on his own, indexed as 'Remage' instead of Ramage.

The 1919 census at Perry, has Robert with surname indexed as 'Rumager' and has Ann as 'Amie C'.

Ok, if this is your Elizabeth:

then her parents headstone details are also there, as they too look to have died in Ohio:

Given mention of Ohio, an Anna Ramage of Scotland apparently married a Clyde Judy at Perry in 1905, with her parents listed as James Ramage and Anna Cowan.

Possible birth:

ANN
