Curious to know about the Dooleys of Mount Bellew. I'm descended from Catherine (Kitty) Nyland, née Dooley, who was born in Mount Bellew in 1815. Her daughter was also a Bridget: possibly she was your Bridget's cousin? Kitty and her husband John left Ireland after 1847 and were in Liverpool in 1851. By 1862 they were in Tottenham, in the Auckland Co. Durham area. John was a coal miner. Kitty Dooley Nyland appears to have died there in 1863.

Do you know the names of any other Dooley siblings?

I am a bit late to the party here, but am also descended from Ballinlass evicted (Kilmartin family). Curious to get in touch with other descendants of those affected.

The Kilmartin family ended up in County Durham and went from there to Australia and, reputedly, America.

Thanks very much for making contact, Colt. I have sent you a private message with some contact details.

Research into this RAF crew is ongoing, and has turned up quite a lot of new information, which I will be happy to share.

Once again, I am putting this on the Middlesex and Derbyshire boards.

I realise I have been a bit quiet about this lately, but hope that some of you are still interested, because I do have some more information.

First of all, I have spoken to the widow of one of the other crew members and she has told me that Douglas Alan Moore Adams was a lovely man, and that her late husband had a great regard for him. Evidently he was usually known as Alan. He was born in Middlesex and grew up in a Barnado's home.

I get the impression that Barnado's records are not available to the public, but does anyone know how many homes they operated at this time? we are probably talking 1913-1927 sort of period.

I have also been told by my informant that, like her, Alan Adam's wife was pregnant at the time of his death, and that she gave birth to a posthumous daughter in November of 1944. Sadly, that now makes two of our crewmen who never saw their little girls.

I'm still hoping we may find some more information, so please--any suggestions are welcome.

First of all, the men in the photo have all been identified. Unfortunately, Douglas Alan Moore Adams was one of the two crew members not included for some reason, so I do not have a picture of him. However, I have spoken to the widow of one of the other crew members and she has told me that he was a lovely man, and that her late husband had a great regard for him. Evidently he was usually known as Alan, and our earlier surmises about his illegitimate birth were correct: Alan Adams grew up in a Barnado's home.

I have also been told by my informant that, like her, Alan Adam's wife was pregnant at the time of his death, and that she gave birth to a posthumous daughter in November of 1944. That now makes two of our crewmen who never saw their little girls.

Canada / Re: Searching for EARL STANLEY CARY, RCAF d. 1944

We've now confirmed that Earl Stanley Cary was definitely the bomb aimer on the plane. He was also promoted to Pilot Officer just before he died (and possibly posthumously); up until his second last mission on 2nd August 1944, he was a flight sargeant, which creates a problem for us, as it means he has two service numbers! His first number (when he was still an NCO) was R143086.

While I haven't had much luck with Earl Cary yet, we do have a lot more information about how he met his end, so if anyone out there has an interest in his fate, there is now plenty to share! Perhaps more will be revealed when the service records come through. I've had a form letter and have been advised that this will take about three months.

World War Two / Re: Air Force Lookups - if you need help

Have just found a picture labelled B Flight, 2 Squadron, No 8 ITW, Newquay, October 7th 1942. My uncle, John Adolphe Prior (later 149 Squadron) is the blond man on the end of the back row.

Would be interested if anyone could let me know what the context of the picture is. By the way, if anyone would like a copy at a better resolution, I will be happy to supply it. Please send me a PM.

I've just printed out and filled in the form, and will fax it off today, so will see what they come back with.

I find it quite extraordinary that there is nothing at all on the form about paying them. I have just written away to the RAF for my uncle's service record, and after paying the 30 pounds up front for the record and the cost of the bank draft, I was poorer by A$85. I'm not opposed to paying for things, but really thirty pounds is a bit steep, and you would think that in this day and age they would at least give you the option of paying with a credit card.
