Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Re: Chirk and Ruabon
« on: Wednesday 03 February 10 19:55 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for all your efforts I'm very grateful for any information and will chase up these leads to see if I can turn up more information. The 24th June baptism for Edward may be interesting, as Elizabeh is a recurring family name in this line, and so is Ann, George, and John

As well as the resources mentioned are there any other likely places / resources to search for elusive relatives from Chirk and Ruabon?

Again, many thanks and I'll report back with any success in tracking them down.

Ahh! Thanks for the info on the census Gadget, I've spent hours looking for them!
I've also found lots of pre 1837 BMD records for other relatives on the online sites, admittedly in other areas, but I'm curious, what's the reason why records for Chirk and Ruabon are absent?

Thanks for showing interest in this puzzle.  I've searched loads of sites including LDS for any IGI or  BMD entries, also Free Reg, and Wales BMD etc.  I also have a subscription to Anc****y which includes Parish Records, but I can't find anything before the 1851 Census.  Theamar (Tamar) is my relative through her daughter Alice Ann, and I've found Tamar in all other census records in Wales then England in the 1881 Census, right up to her death in 1887, but nothing found on anyone prior to the 1851 Wales census.

The Baptism for John Roberts on 21 Aug 1825 sounds very promising  but I wonder if the 1928 Marriage may be a little too late.  Their address for the 1851 census seems to be Mc Coys (or McLoys) Houses, Ruabon, Christionydd-Coed  with a pub or inn called the Masons Arms nearby Thanks again for looking into this brickwall.

Hi,

Thank you so much for trying - Does anyone else have similar problems!   -  Relatives appearing only in one census year - Irish Relatives with no records available - Illegible entries-Names Changing or ages that vary wildly between Census years - Common names with lots of possibles - etc etc.

I don't yet have the marriage certificate for Richard as I hoped someone may have records of marriages for St Elphins to confirm fathers name -  Also, I  dont't know if it would get me any further, as  it wasn't just a matter of confirming fathers name to locate  Richard or sort him out from a number of possibilities.  I have searched for him in the England and Scotland 1841 Census on numerous sites,  but none of the entries fit  -  He was a labourer, probably agriculteral as Elizabeth lived on a farm, but the closest matches seem unlikely candidates  eg -

What should I do? - Do you recommend getting the certificate?

Hi,

Here it is.    But he only married Elizabeth in 1847, and I cannot locate him anywhere on the 1841 Census, but would be very grateful if anyone else can.

Hi

Thanks for replying.

My GG Grandfather Richard only appeared in the 1851 Census, aged 28.

Unfortunately he died a few years later, so never appeared in any other census -  I
just cannot find him on on the 1841 Census. either.

The only other information is that he married  my GG Grandmother at St Elphins Warrington in
1847, and his father was also called Richard.     :(
