Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Re: Townsley girls marriages
« on: Wednesday 14 September 11 22:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

The name Townsley is of interest to me as it is a line i havent managed to get very far with on my tree.

Margaret W Townsley (c1852-1925) married William McKillen at 3rd Ballymena in August 1870. Her father was George Townsley and lived around Ballyclug (Tully).

Does anyone have any connections to this family who can help me pursue them further.

Thanks

DC

Hi i dont suppose you've come across any information for a Margaret Townsley born about 1852, father George Townsley. She is my gg-Grandmother and i am stumped going further back. She married William McKillen at 3rd Ballymena in 1870 and died 1925.
It's the townsley line, rather than her persay, i am interested in as you can see i've got almost all her info.
They lived on the Doagh Rd (what is now Tully Rd) and hoped there might be some link to your line or you have found some info during your searches.

Regards,
David

Hi.
I am very interested in knowing any more info about your Daniel McKay. I have a couple in my direct line as well and they were in the same general area of north antrim as Ballycastle.

My McKays/McCays are based in Inshamph and have a burial plot in Clough Cemetery

If you go to the Ballymena museum website they have a section under genealogy which allows you to search the local headstone inscriptions and I believe they're on there.

After re-reading your post I thought you might be interested to know that the 2 oldest Crawford graves I know of there are for a James Crawford of omerbane (a townland or parish near clough) and a john Crawford of the colliery. Both headstones are now gone thru wear or covered by larger gravestones.
I'd love to know if they're for yours and if they link to my crawfords.
Regards. David

Hi i havent heard of Brecamph before. Are you sure it isnt Inshamph? This is where my McCay/McKay line are from and i'm sure that Mary Jane McKay and Charles Crawford must tie into my lines somehow...knowing the family history in this area they all intermarried (presumably to keep the land in the same families)

I'll transcribe the first few paragraphs of what i have:

THE CRAWFORD FAMILY TREE
This booklet offers to you, the reader, as much information as it has been possible to glean concerning Robert Crawford, his wife Rose McElheron and their descendants over 6 generations. Narratives of the Crawford family are not readily available, however, thanks to the research efforts of Jeff Hazeltine, and the good memory of John Hamilton Crawford of Antrim, we have a clear record of the movements of this family prior to their dispersal to the "four corners" of the globe.

Apart from Gamble's endeavours in Ohio and Michigan, U.S.A. we can convey little of the long voyages, hardships and pioneering spirit which established Crawfords so thoroughly in U.S.A., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as those remaining in Northern Ireland, over the ensuing two centuries.
.....

There are family trees towards the back of the document and several photocopied photos.

If it's of interest then i can look into scanning it as i'm not going to transcribe it all!!!

Antrim / Bogtown in the Braid
« on: Thursday 16 December 10 23:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Antrim historians.

Do any of you have any idea where Bogtown on/in the Braid would be?

I have a narrative pertaining to someone i hope to find is a direct ancestor and their home is titled as Bogtown in the Braid (and is presumably in the general area of Slemish/Broughshane)

The person in particular is Nancy (Nannie) Boyd who was the wife of Thomas Craford of the Braid. They had 3 children, Robert, William and Janet (who would marry Matthew Crawford of Raloo who is presumed to be her cousin)

My Crawford line has been based in Ballycraigagh/Ballycregagh near Clough, Antrim since early 1800s where the earliest confirmed ancestor is Robert (Robin) Crawford.
The 1766 Freeholders has a Matthew Crawford of Ballycraigagh. My aim is to find out what if any link there is to this Matthew Crawford of Ballycraigagh and the Matthew Crawford of Raloo and I think this family at Bogtown in the Braid could be the link.

Thanks
