Hi Ozigal,

There is quite a bit of information on the ship and on the passengers. It only has information on ancestors who are from Somerset. Would you like my mother to look up someone for you?

My mother has a copy Ozigal, I could ask her to look it up. Alternatively, your local library may have a copy, I know mine does.

Thanks very much, Cando, for that link. John was charged with being a neglected child and was sent to the school for 5 years, Samuel and Joseph were sent there for 7 years - poor kids, makes you feel sad and you hope that they were treated well.

Hi,

Have found out that the newspaper was The Alpine Observer and the Victorian State Library have it on microfiche so I have been there today and looked it up. There were three boys, John Jones age 9, Samuel Jones age 7, Joseph Jones age 6, were all sent to the Royal Park Industrial School. So I am off now to try and find out what I can about that institution.

Thanks once again everyone for your help.

Thanks Pam for the info on the 1841 Census. I am wondering if this is our Charles CLACY as he went on to become a Publican in Australia and in the 1841 Census Charles and John CLACY are recorded as living at a Beer Shop.

Thanks Alan, that is what I am really hoping for, that someone with the PRs can look up and make a confirmation of his birth.

Australia / Re: South Australia - Marriage of Charles CLACY & Lillian Earle
« on: Sunday 23 January 11 07:07 GMT (UK)  »
Thankyou everyone for your information. I am trying to help my Uncle sort this out - it is his brick wall.

Charles CLACY is said to have married Lillian EARLE in 1861, but we have been unable to find a marriage.

The information about Charles CLACY arriving in Australia in 1850 is from a family bible.

We don't know Charles CLACY'S parents names. Lillian's maiden name is EARLE.  She was married to a THORNTON and had 2 children to him before she 'married' Charles CLACY.

Thankyou Cando for deciphering 'Living at World Upside Down Beer Shop' in the 1841 Census - we were having trouble working that out. We are wondering if that is our Charles CLACY in the 1841 Census as he ended up becoming a Publican in Victoria. What a quaint name for a Pub/beer shop!

We're not sure where the name PRESTON fits in.  It is an intriguing puzzle.

Hi,

Looking for the birth of Charles CLACY in Reading in 1819. He migrated to Australia in 1850. On his death certificate it says that he was born in Reading , Berkshire, England in 1819.

Any help much appreciated.

Australia / South Australia - Marriage of Charles CLACY & Lillian Earle
« on: Sunday 23 January 11 03:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Looking for the marriage of Charles CLACY & Lillian EARLE in South Australia. Charles CLACY came from Reading, Berkshire, England in 1850. I have searched unsuccessfully for their marriage in Victoria, so it either looks like they married in South Australia before they came to Victoria, or else they didn't marry at all.  Any help much appreciated.

Sharon.
