To those who replied to this thread today, thanks!  Just a quick  acknowledgement  to you all. Don't  have  the  family tree stuff to hand but sarah hoey was eventually found  under a different surname spelling  (can't  remember  exact) so all is well 😊.  Many thanks

P.s. Think it was transcribed  wrong    ::)

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: The Limericks of Derry

Good evening :)
Returning to this thread after a few years.I have found out a few things since and thought it better to add to this rather than start  a new thread.
The following is an rough extract from Margaret Docherty's (nee Limerick) Poorhouse record from Glasgow 1878.

(Margaret Limerick or Docherty is aged 60 years, born in Ireland,Co Londonderry,3 miles from Derry town at Loch Enoch.Roman Catholic, daughter of Robert Limerick, shoemaker and Annie Broadly both dead.
Husband Charles Docherty died 21 years ago.Died in Inneshewan Ireland. Was born in Derry,Ireland and was a blacksmith )

It was originally thought that Margaret's mother was Catherine as this was what was on her death cert It now seems to be Annie and the surname probably Bradley.

I also now know that the Sally Limerick mentioned earlier was Margaret's sister as she was with her on the 1861 Glasgow census.Sally was on the Griffith's Valuation at Redcastle,Inishowen also.I got a death cert for a Sally Limerick, spinster died 1884 at Glenderine/Glenderowen.I'm pretty sure it's her.Age fits and it's the only Sally Limerick I have come across.

I came across a Robert Limerick on the 1831 census list at Enagh,Clondermot,Tirkeeran.I am hoping that this is her father but as Kingskerswell said in a prevoius post it only lists male or females not names :(
I also got From Family Search a Robert who died in 1867 ages 67 but it's trying to connect the two :-\

I was wondering if someone could maybe tell me what church would have been the local one for Enagh?I was hoping to try and find out where Robert might be buried or if there is any surviving records of his death or even his marriage to Annie (Broadly/Bradley).

I know that several of you have helped me out with this extensively previously and listed a lot of Limericks but any help to try and put me in the right direction would be really appreciated :)

Sorry for the long post!

sinnan you are a star for finding that ;D
That's them alright. The kids names and ages correspond with the few that I have. How did they transcribed connell into Connelly. The wife was dead by then so I wonder if he remarried and baby Mary in 1911 is from his second marriage :-\

Also the hubby found that site earlier too while googling Desmond Ave and has since posted  there.
Thanks fro all your searching
Annette

p.s.Think Thomas died in 1908 so don't think Baby Mary on the 1911 is his.

sinnan hi,there was no link posted there!

Tho Hubby thinks that Desmond Ave was built after 1901 but before 1905 when his grandparents got married

hi aghadowey.Yes.sorry' its do do with the John Connell post.
It's the marriage that we can't find.
John was born 1882.Don't know if he was the first born so I'd guess the marriage of his parents to be roughly 1870's.
Can't find them anywhere in Dublin.Beginning to wonder if they married atall!

Hi sinnan and aghadowey.Yes we both spotted that ages ago and its driving us mad!John was actually 29 in 1901.This is what is puzzling my husband.Never thought that it could be the wife's sister. We noticed one thing though. On the surname for baby Mary it looks like there was something else written first and then Connell written over.
The only thing we found this morning was a death for a Thomas Connell(John's Dad?)in 1908.Mary was born in 1910.Maybe the mother remarried :-\

Another one that someone might be able to help me with please!
These are John Connell's parents. Can't find their marriage anywhere ???.Have searched on Roots Ireland. At least 4 of the children where born in kingstown.John,Ellen,Edward Peter and Mary Ellen.
As far as the family knows they are from there. Can't find them on any census' either .
They are the most elusive bunch ::)
Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

Thanks
Annette
