Australia / Tony Stramrood
« on: Sunday 03 March 24 06:29 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on the above gentleman, who at one time was married to my Great aunt, Eunice Harrington Green.  Eunice was born and grew up in Sth. Australia.  She certainly died under that surname in Sydney in 1996.  I have found a shipping record for her travelling to Capetown, South Africa on 25 Oct. 1951.  She appears to have been travelling on her own.  She then would have been aged 57.  I have nothing on her husband Tony (presumably Anthony) other than his name.  No birth, marriage or death.  Going by his surname, he was possibly from South Africa, perhaps with European ancestors.
At the time of going to South Africa, Eunice's address was shown as living in the UK.
Any help on solving this mystery, would be very much appreciated.

Thank you to all for information.  I did notice that Ruth, the 13 year old had been admitted to the R.A.H. and was there for 9 days, but no mention as to why.
Ruth Ethel Tomlinson appears to have been born in W.A. to parents Peter William and Hannah Matilda, but I have put "to be confirmed" on my Tree!  It was certainly Ruth Ethel who married Le Roy Taunton de Guerin in Oct. 1926.
I have searched the surrounding cemeteries for her resting place, with no luck, so will contact the S.A. State Library today re her funeral notice.  Thank you for that advice.  Le Roy is certainly in West Terrace Cemetery with a Commonwealth War Graves headstone.
Thanks again,

I have tried looking for a death for Ruth Ethel de Guerin.  As she possibly died in Port Adelaide area, I checked a number of cemeteries but only found two with that surname (minus the de) but none of them seem to be related.  Both Le Roy and his wife (whichever one she was) seem to be a bit mysterious).  Ruth Ellen Tomlinson was certainly a wife, but for how long??

I couldn't find the statement from his sister Irenee Macindoe (she was Le Roy's eldest sister) or the police report of Le Roy's death to the coroner.  Presumably there were suspicious circumstances.

Thanks Maddys,  I was checking for de Guerin for birth.  As I said, he shows up both with/without the "de".  If Ruth Ellen was his wife, then why does his Gravestone at West Tce. Cemetery, show his wife as Elizabeth? His daughters are shown as Ruth and Joan though and the date of death is correct.
Perhaps it might be worthwhile applying for a transcript from SA Genealogy of both his marriage and death.
I could not see that Ruth Ellen remarried (she possibly d. in 1971) (as apparently did "Elizabeth Ruth")!!  I only have Ruth's marriage to Le Roy Taunton Guerin.  No birth for her either, unless she was born in W.A. in 1899 with parents Peter and Hannah Tomlinson!!  It is certainly a mystery!!
Perhaps Le Roy and Ruth parted company and he then had an "Elizabeth" as a long time partner, hence her name being on his headstone.

Australia / Le Roy de Guerin marriage/s
« on: Thursday 21 September 23 03:39 BST (UK)  »
For some time I have been trying to find information as to who Le Roy Taunton de Guerin married.  In S.A. Genealogy it appears he married Ruth Ethel Tomlinson on 26 October, 1926 in St. John's Church, Adelaide.  He had two daughters, now both deceased.
However, his headstone reads that he "died in Myrtle Bank (Adelaide, S.A.) on 10 September, 1946 aged 60 years. Loved husband of Elizabeth and father of Ruth and Joan".
The only account of Leroy on SA Genealogy is his marriage in October 1926.  He was apparently born in Adelaide on 1 April, 1886 but no birth is shown.  His parents were Harry Robin and Alice Mary.
So, my question is, did Leroy marry twice?  Or was his wife Ruth Ethel or Elizabeth Mary (both surnames being Tomlinson).
There is a death on SA Gen. for an "Elizabeth Ruth" who died 20 Feb. 1971 aged 70.  The relative who apparently gave the information, was Leroy Taunton de Guerin (DH). District was Port Adelaide.
I would be very grateful if someone could figure all this out for me please, as I am completely baffled!
I have also seen his name shown as "Guerin" without the "de".

Thank you to everyone who responded to my request regarding Robert (Richard) Riches.  I have passed the info on to my friend who also offered her thanks. I sent Wivenhoe a personal message.

Australia / Robert (Richard) Riches

I am trying to find information on Robert (Richard) Riches for a friend whose husband's family believe they were related to him via marriage.  He was an artist and spent time in the Mosman, Sirius Cove area painting scenes of the water.  I believe he was born c.1860 but that could have been in England.  I did find a birth at Downham in the second quarter of 1860. There is one Downham in Lancashire and another at Lewisham near London.  There is one birth in NSW in 1870 (10 years later).
Possible marriages in NSW were between 1980 - 1902 for either a 'Robert' or 'Richard'.
Possible deaths in NSW were between 1901 - 1952 for either a 'Robert' or 'Richard'.
I haven't been able to find much on the internet about him other than he was apparently an Australian Physician and Amateur painter based in Mosman.
Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, thank you Ladyhawk, what a lot of information, some of which I received yesterday through Rootschat, but you have certainly filled in a lot of blanks.
Very much appreciated.

Thank you everyone.  Yes, I realised I had put the request on Australia rather than England, as soon as I did it.  Apologies.
