Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841/51 Benjamin BELSHAW in Worsley or Pendleton
« on: Friday 21 December 18 18:27 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Bill.

I've made  a fair bit of progress since I posted this request, though I've come to the conclusion that the family are on the missing or unreadable pages of the 1851 census.

I also noticed that, sadly, Elizabeth (first wife) died shortly after the birth of baby Peter and that Peter was baptised on the same day and at the same church that his mother was buried.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: Anyone know where Rockcliff or Rockliffe is?
« on: Wednesday 11 November 15 10:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone.

Nearly ten years after the original posting I have made virtually no progress on this one. At one time I thought it was more likely that John HOLMES was born in West or South Yorkshire, and the family just moved the fairly short distance to Manchester. But reviewing all your posts again, I'm coming round to the idea that North Yorkshire is the place.

As an added clue, on the 1851 census the family have a lodger - John REDBERRY aged 30, also a Hemp Dresser from Rockcliff Yorkshire (HO107 Piece 2223 Page 29). Can anyone find out anything about this person?

The Lighter Side / Re: Death of Gordon Honeycombe
« on: Monday 12 October 15 14:47 BST (UK)  »
Not really the 'lighter side' but the death of broadcaster Gordon Honeycombe has been announced.
It was his TV programme along with Don Steel, in the late 1970's that first started me on my long journey into tracking down my family. It has and remains a revealing fascination.

 Thank you Gordon.

Me too. My mum and I were fascinated by that series.

RIP Gordon

Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I've got the paperwork ready to send off.

Will keep you posted!

Armed Forces / Making Changes to Commonwealth War Graves Records
« on: Thursday 18 June 15 18:41 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any experience of getting changes made to Commonwealth War Graves records and memorials?

The CWGC website says they will consider amendments if documentary evidence is supplied, but what level of evidence is needed to prove an error?

I have found someone who I believe is recorded under the wrong surname (LUCK instead of TUCK). I have copies of articles and an obituary from a local church magazine, which show his army service number, regiment and date of death.  Do you think they would be considered official enough?

Lancashire / Re: Seeking Confirmation of a Drowning 1754

If I'm correct, Noah was my ggggg grandfather (From Noah via William, Thomas - records a bit iffy there but I'm reasonably confident, Henry, Noah, Charlotte who was my grandmother). We are the ones who ended up in Pendleton, Salford.

Thanks James. That is the one I remember.

I haven't found any siblings or parents either. They are likely to be in the Eccleston or Douglas Chapel Registers but I'm not sure those still exist prior to mid 1700s.

Are you part of Noah's clan?

I'm still looking at Lancashire Stringfellows and trying to fit them all together. The vast majority of the ones living around Chorley, Blackburn, Salford in the 19th century appear to lead back to Wrightington, many of them to Noah and Margaret.

But at the moment I'm looking at some Liverpool Stringfellows who may be a completely different set.

The Common Room / Re: Harry Stringfellow
« on: Saturday 11 April 15 19:49 BST (UK)  »
If you are still interested, I think he is Henry Stringfellow born 1874 in Lathom, Lancashire to parents William and Mary Stringfellow.

Married Elizabeth Lyon at St John Burscough Bridge (Ormskirk) 17 Jul 1902.

Can be found on 1911 census living in Burscough with wife and several children, and working as a basket maker.

Yes I like a mystery too.

I think this one may take a while to solve.
