Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Y chromosome DNA
« on: Friday 08 March 24 19:55 GMT (UK)  »
My Y chromo DNA test reflects my surname accurately  back until around 1800 (1798):before this I have no-one with my surname who shares my DNA though I have some fairly high grade matches.
Which is most likely,  none testing or extra marital events?

The Common Room / Re: Tracing an illusive Railway employee, London, 1930s

Though this may already have been mentioned nd I missed it as I have been off site for some time, dont forget the proximity of the London Northwestern Terminus (later LMS) from Euston which also had a service to Scotland, so along with Kings Cross, St. Pancras and Marylebone there are at least 4 possible termini to choose from. I think probably he has been found with the Trade Union reference mentioned though Wilson is quite a common name.

Sadly my cousin gave her father's medals to her husband on their marriage in the mid 1960s. Unfortunately the marriage resulted in divorce during the next decade. The medals were not returned and were lost to my cousin. They refer to my Uncle's career in the Royal Artilery and service in Malaya and India pre WW1. If at all possible my cousin would like them returned to her. She is now aged 92, and I thought it worthwhile trying on this site. Can anyone help please? I realise it is probably the longest short of all.

There is something wrong with these records or is just me approaching senility? Let me explain at length why this cannot be a record of the funeral of Jack Buff on this date.  (Early 1965)  First details on myself so far as they are relevant.
1) I worked on the railway at Lincoln accounts office from June 1962 until June 1965.
2) During this period I commuted daily from Boston.
3) I lived in Doncaster from June 1965 and was married the following month.
4) My wife remembers Jack Buff, which would be unlikely had he died in early 1965.

The funeral was held in St. Thomas' Church yard on a bleak day in January or February during a heavy rain storm. I remember my mother telling me the coffin gradually sunk with a trail of bubbles!
During his exposure my father caught pneumonia and very nearly died as a result.
(During his life he had a least 8 sessions of pneumonia, I remember 2 of them, one August 1961, the other this one caused by the funeral) He attended our wedding in July 1965 and was healthy at the time. He also attended my brother's wedding in Mablethorpe late January 1966, so 1965 and 1966 are ruled out. The funeral could have been as early as 1967, but not later than 1971. Dad passed away in November 1971 so it cannot be after January. I personally believe it took place in January 1968, most likely between January 1967 and January 1969.

I have at least one instance in mother's tree of a nephew marrying his aunt. Then, as now illegal. He was the son of the oldest of 10 children. 20 years or so later his aunt was born at around the same time. How it was allowed in a small village is unbelievable.

My grandfather John Luffman was born 1828.i was b1940. My younger brother was b1945. 112years between my grandfather and myself. 117 years between him and my brother. A remarriage at 66 plus a latish (40+) marriage in the next generation makes a difference to the time line.
