South Africa / Humansdorp 1850's French community
« on: Friday 12 January 24 03:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I based on research I note that there where a number French immigrants that settled in Humansdorp's in the 1850's. notably the following persons:
Charles Christian Deschamps https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G8F7-8MB
Auguste Herbin Deschamps https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/K2JH-69X

I seeking anyone that might have information on the origins of the these to individuals and if they where related. My main interest is Charles Christian Deschamps.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thansk Terence

Yes that is the same person. I have reached out to them but no response. We will contact the Church next to see if they can advise. With regards to Wilhelmus, all parish records that I can find indicate his second name was actually William.

Thanks again

Thanks for the suggestions.

I looking for the Birth details of  James William (Felstead) Short according to family records born 22 September 1892 in Kroonstad. They where Methodist. According to his marriage certificate he was 24 on the 30/03/1918 so that would have made his birth date 30/03/1893 to 29/03/1894. :(

I have searched the https://familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A%2F%2Ffamilysearch.org%2Frecapi%2Fsord%2Fwaypoint%2FSFVW-FMH%3A44975801%2C52006601%2C52134601%3Fcc%3D1468076   and  https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/South_Africa,_Methodist_Parish_Registers_(FamilySearch_Historical_Records).

I have also tried to search the national Archives but don't get too many results I found the will of his wife.

His mother was Mary Ann Short, and I presume his father was James William Short.

Thanks Again, Essentially I'm trying to trace the birth and parents of my 4th Great Grandfather Richard Palmer of Melbury Osmund.  The only indication that he might have been Christened in Melbury Sampford is this familysearch page https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:1:M19N-1ZT

The details are provided in my original post. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=578742.0

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. I will submit a request to the Dorset History Centre. Being in Australia make it a bit tricky to get in to the centre. :)

Melbury Sampford for the period I'm looking for is not on opcdorset.  :(  I have also search on Ancestry.com with no luck.

thank you for the guidence

Thank you CaroleW. With regards to my FH ....

I'm trying to track male descendants of the parents of Richard Palmer, my Great x4 Grandfather, b about 1767.  Frederick was the grandson of Sindry Fawconer Henry Palmer. Sindry was Richards nephew, and i have being trying to find Richards parents through Sindry.  Thanks again. I think Frederick is a dead end as in 1911 he was 45 and still single.
