Yes, I've seen that marriage.
I have ordered the certificates of the children of the second marriage to shed some light on that.
It's Fred's origins that have me beaten though

Hi

Yes he was always Fred in the censuses, marriage certs etc.
Also, his eldest son Fred - from his first marriage - was registered as Fred.
So I assume he was a Fred, but of course he may not have been.

Yes he was "married" to a Susannah (spelt various ways), after his first wife Eliza died.
According to the 1911 census they said they were married around 1899.
I have been unable to find their marriage around that date.

Hi

At his marriage the witnesses were James and Eliza Kirby.
I think I have found them - a brother and sister around Eliza's (his wife) age.

Anything is possible regarding his family, nobody seems to have the slightest inkling other than he was American.

He only ever stated that he was from Baltimore USA.
On the 1911 census he put nationality American, but never stated if Naturalised (which is an option).
I have checked the naturalisation records and can't find anything.

I think it's just going to remain a mystery.

Hi Sandra

So do you think he was born in UK and then went to US as a small child and then returned to UK?
I hadn't considered that, but is something I need to look in to.

I'm concerned that from your info father is L Roy, as Fred stated on his marriage certificate that his father was Fred also.

Thank you for your help

United States of America / Fred Roy look up request please

Hi All

I'm having trouble locating any USA information for Fred Roy, born between 1851 and 1856 (his age varies on all his UK census forms. According to his marriage certificate he would have been born 1855 or 1856)
He states on his marriage certificate that his father was also Fred Roy with occupation Decorator.
He states on the census forms that he was from Baltimore USA, but doesn't give which state.
I can't find him prior to 1881 in the UK, so assume he was in the US.
I am also unable to find him on any passenger lists.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Liz

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Re: baptism look up please

Hi Carol and BG
Thank you so much for trying.
I'm at a loss with this one - I too have found the marriage, the children and the death.
As you say there are no clues anywhere. Plenty of Tomlinsons in the area who could be his parents, but no baptism entries for Matthew.
I thought there maybe something in the registers that weren't available online, but alas.
I'll check out the Yorkshire angle, thank you BG - I just wanted to eliminate Notts before I started looking elsewhere.

Thanks again

Liz

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / baptism look up please
« on: Wednesday 31 December 08 03:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
Could somebody please look up a baptism for Matthew Tomlinson c1722?

Buried 1785 Greasley, with estimated Year of Birth 1722.
He was married to Mary Eyre in Radford in 1753.
Their children were born in Greasley and Radford, so I'm guessing he was born somewhere around there.
I haven't been able to find a baptism for him anywhere on ancestry.

Thank you
