Lanarkshire / Re: wooden bridges over the Clyde-1830-1848

this certainly puts another positive check mark beside this bridge.
Now I will look for any wooden bridges that were washed away during a winter storm in the 1830's---process of elimination seems to be working :)
Thanks again, Pat

:)thankyou for both very informative answers---I appreciate your time. The more I read the more I am feeling that Dalmarnock Bridge could very well be the one I am looking for.--But ----then there is that 'old wooden bridge"  at Dalmuir---hmmmmm    :-\lol

Lanarkshire / wooden bridges over the Clyde-1830-1848
« on: Thursday 27 October 05 17:58 BST (UK)  »
Well here I am after a long time away--still searching for concrete info on my Alexander Macdougall. ???
Have documented his life from 1850-1914 with lots of help from this site and others to which I am  very grateful. :)

What I am trying to do now is pinpoint where he was living from 1830-1848. I do have a reference to him living near
"The Old Wooden Bridge" during his young years, that had a toll house at one end. After many hours of interesting reading  on many many sites I think it may be the Dalmarnock Bridge.

I also have reference that this bridge was destroyed during a severe storm and  flood during 1840's. I really would like confirmation if anyone can help.

Question--how many wooden bridges crossed the Clyde during those years and which one had a toll house and was destroyed by the flood etc.?

Thanks for your help.
Pat :)

:)Alexander Macdougall b.1830 Glasgow --d-1914 Suffolk
*Do not know when he left Scotland.
:)Mary Macdougall b.1800 Glasgow Scotland, d. 1886 Essex.

*In 1852 Alexander started his Unitarian ministry -possibly in East Sussex area.
* Married Fanny Duke in 1860, St.Mary Lewes.
*They are found in 1861 East Sussex census at Pimlico Cottage, with their first child.

*He may have been in East Sussex areas in 1851.

** Since he was just 22 when he began his Ministry in Sussex , his family may have been there as well.Perhaps Aunt Mary.

I do not know his parents names. However ,  Aunt Mary Macdougall was living with him and Fanny in 1871/81 Gosfield Essex census. .
Hope this is enough information,
Thanks in advance,
Keeping my fingers crossed,
Pat

The death records/certificate will not contain details of her parents unless they registered the death.  The death certificate gives you the following information:

1. When and where died (might be useful for an address - although could have died somewhere other than at home of course)
2. Name
3. Sex
4. Age
5. Occupation
6. Cause of death
7. Signature, description (relationship to deceased) and residence of informant
8. When registered

:)Good Morning to you-
Thanks for this info-- :)
Here in BC Archives of Vital Stats on death certs. they sometimes do include parents names so was hoping the same applied. Since posting my request I have found Alexanders wife,Fanny's, maiden name, ( DUKE), birth date and place of residence in 1861--Littlehampton at Pimlico Cottage. Spent much time last evening finding out about this place.
Now will be searching for marriage records of Alex and Fanny--
The "bricks" are coming down!
Have a great day,
Pat

Hi Pat

I have no idea about online records for deaths other than freebmd which goes up to about 1910 but of course is not complete.
All BMD's are available at large public libraries on microfiche.
I often use Bedford,or of course you can pay per view on the 1837 site.
http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/

Unfortunately the only way to see the full details on a cert is to pay £7 and haveit sent to you.
The website http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
gives full details.

A friend of mine was able to get info about his uncles 2002 death by calling at the probate office in Holborn recently and saw the executors names and addresses on his will.Don't know if you're near enough to London to do that.
I'm not and none of mine have had any money to leave anyway  :'(

To see any details after 1901 you will either have to wait till Jan 2012 for the 1911 census to be released or turn up at the record office for the area you last had an address for your ancestors at and look through yearly electoral rolls. Do a Google search to find electoral rolls for XXX wherever, some libraries have them too.I know Harrow does,it's where I grew up and some of my ancestors were.

Hope this has given you a few clues,

Regards

Carol
:) Thanks again Carol for all the insite--Will follow up on the leads!
Thanks to wonderful folks like you I have just found Alexanders wife's maiden name --Fanny" Duke"-and where she was in 1861- did more searching and found her birth date and her whole family in IGI!! They were in Littlehampton living at Pimlico Cottage.
Now perhaps I can find a marrige date and related info.
Checking in at London or other places in UK is not an option--I live on the very outside West Coast of Vancouver Island ,British Columbia ,Canada--though a " holiday would be great!"
Having a great day !

Hello Liz,
Thanks for this info!.
I do not have the names of his parents unfortunately--this is what I would really like to know.

I am looking at the group of 3 in Blythswood 587-- am a tad excited . Are these three people all at the same residence? Why I am asking is that Alexander had an "Aunt mary" born about 1800 or so and this Mary, age 49 could have been her.The Alexander there could be the one I am looking for, right age,  --but then again so are the other 2 about the right age. Man oh man- this gets the blood going.! How can I get more detailed info regarding these names?
I could spend all day here, but unfortunately we have to eat -so must go shop!
Thanks for your help--I really do appreciate it.
Pat
