She was married in 1868, so her DOB could be around 1840-46, before civil registrations. Her daughter born in the Curragh camp Kildare is also not registered either on the civil list (just got a nil return from Irish GRO) nor on Army records. Might just have to wait until they completed the records and see if her death record appears at some point.

The Police records do list marriage and postings so I might be able to trace through that way.

Thanks for the advice.

I can only find her marriage record at the moment on the new pilot site for Irish BMD's. Will keep looking as it is work in progress.

Have found details of her father who was in the Royal Irish Constabulary. They do a records search facility so will be parting with some more cash next week to commission them to search for his records.

Hi Ken

Have searched the gazette and found no mention of his appointment, I guess NCO's weren't often mentioned.

Hi Ken

Many thanks for the info.

His name is Michael James Dodd, born ~1811 Ireland, died 1st April 1876.

On his son's marriage certificate 1868, he is listed as a Gentleman. However if I have got my research right I think he was in the 87th Regiment of Foot in 1841, and is possibly listed on the Indian Mutiny Medals Roll 1857-59. He was pensioned out of the army and in 1861 is listed as a chelsea pensioner, so he may have gone back to Ireland and taken on the role with the South Mayo Rifles.

I am going to get a researcher to check the full records at Kew as we have 3 generations of army service  from the period of ~1830 - 1905 to investigate.

Regards

Many thanks,
I have linked through to the relevant page on the Northern Ireland police web site and they will do a search for between £15-£25 depending on grade.

The link is: http://www.psni.police.uk/index/about-us/about_museum/about_museum_genealogy.htm

Others may find this useful.

Can anyone give me any info or links for this miltia group?

My GGGgrandfather is listed on his wedding certificate as Color Sergeant Commissariat Staff Corp, but as a Quarter Master of the South Mayo Rifles?

Thanks

Ireland / Age given as Minor on Marriage cert

Can anyone help?

My GGGgrandmother is listed as a minor on her marriage certificate. Do all Irish marriage certificates from the 1800's only list Full age or Minor? What does minor mean?

Many Thanks
