"patronymics" ? I'll be looking that one up. But I do think I understand the concept - rather similar to the Scandinavians. I've also been doing some searching on my Swedish side.
I did not know the Welsh used the same type of naming.
It does get rather confusing.

I'll keep your advice in mind, and have another go at my loose ends.

Owen Thomas b. May 22 1882
His father was William, his mother was Margaret.

Between the 1881 and 1891 census Margaret was widowed; and some how the name Lloyd was inserted;
Owen Thomas became Owen Lloyd Thomas.

Once Owen arrived in Canada, he became Owen Thomas Lloyd.


Can someone offer an explanation?
I'm just out of ideas.
