Australia / Re: Edward CHRISTIE gravesite or burial information please
« on: Thursday 17 May 18 05:36 BST (UK)  »
Hello Macushla
I have not been on this site for a long time either-so am not sure if we have communicated before.Edward Christie and Mary Webb were my  great grandparents also-so we are probably 3rd cousins.
I sought to find their burial details, quite a while ago now,but was unsuccessful.I was left wondering if Edward was buried on his property at Upper(Glen) Huon.Mary died at Cygnet-probably she was buried there but I found no evidence. If you find any info.I would be pleased if you could share it with me.
I am guessing that you are descended from Frederick,as tho non-beneficiary of Mary's will and assume that this was because he had been interstate for 10 years or so when she died.William Henry C. and Sabina Wicks were my grandparents. Please let me know if I can help with any info.

There is a very good book on Huon families by Richie Woolley which includes details of the Christie family. The book name could be "Beyond the Falls"?

Just to confirm that Edward Christie worked as an overseer at Port Arthur, before moving to farm  at Upper Huon, and later and finally to Lymington.

Very interesting material I have just read.Edward Christie was also my great grandfather and I have been collecting info on as many of his descendants as I can find for more years than I now care to recall. There are over 300 in my records and I am happy to share and would certainly welcome your details.Edward did indeed come to Tasmania with the 12th Regiment of Foot(researched by my 2nd cousin in N.Z. who is descended from Patrick Joseph C.) after previously serving 9 11/12 years in Mauritius. He seems to have been born in 1816 or earlier so perhaps he had had an earlier marriage which prevented his marriage in the Catholic Church. His children were brought up as Catholics.Mary Webb appears to have been born c1833 in County Kildare.
Incidentally there were other Christie families in Tas.(on West Coast and far South) at the same time and I haven't found any connection with them(yet).
